Default Any high milage SI's out there?

How many miles can the SI take before it needs a major repair or before it starts eating oil? (under normal condtions and not abused) What the highest milage SI you have seen or have that hasnt needed major repair and doesnt eat more the a quart of oil a oil change?

Is your car eating oil? This is your second thread relating to eating oil.

Lol you and them damn g37's. But op idk I'm sure there's ppl with high milage. My car got an oil change and I was low on oil. No leaks anywhere. The more vtec you use the more you burn I guess. But some oil consumption is normal.

Why does everyone on this forum seem to think vtec is some supernatural power? It's just the ability to switch over to a high lift, high duration cam from a less aggressive cam profile. V8's have been putting high lift and duration cams for years. So does that mean they are in VTEC all the time? They don't seem to burn more oil.

Perhaps it's the 11:1 compression ratio. RX-7's and S2000's and RX-8 like to use oil as well. All of these motors have high compression and rev high too, just like the K20Z3. Maybe it's hard to stop oil consumpsion or blow by under these conditions....I dunno

its the blow by at high rpms which causes oil consumption after break in.
because i never have to add oil in between my oil changes. the last time i had to add oil was when church's was tuning my car due to the numerous pulls they did.

but im at 70,200 miles as of now and going strong =]

So the highest si seen by any one here is 66k? Also the high compression makes sense for oil burning but I think it more or less has to do with engine up keep. I have a Crx with 173,xxx and burns hard. And a accord with 217,xxx that burns none.

77k, 35k+ are highway, i drive the turnpike 50 some miles a day for work ( with toll reciepts haha) No issues at all, burns less then a qt per oil change. Honestly If it was up o me I'd keep the car forever and give it t my kid when shes 16, but since we have a newborn the si has to go!

I think he meant that of the 77K, 35K miles were highway miles.

i thick it may have a bit to do with handa telling people to change the oil every 5k to. My dad tolded his 06 si in 07 and we got it from Alstate and put the k20 in my eg1 i have put over 100k on from that point no oil burn at all in less i let it go over 3k i use mobile 1 clean 5000 in my car

Honda doesn't tell people to change their oil every 5K miles, the MM does that. What does losing oil have anything to do with your oil change interval?

You act like every single car is going eat oil to that extent from only a few posts. Use some judgment.
