main relay question: what comes before it in its circuit?
My car has been acting weird and I can not pin point where the issue is coming from. The tach is going crazy and the car is missing out. Some times it wouldn't start. So far I have tried two different distributers, three different ignition control modules, new wires, new plugs, new cap, new rotor, etc. I tried using a buddies coil one of the times it would start and it didn't do anything. I'll have a question about this after the next paragraph.
I tested my ignition switch and it was bad. I replaced it today and the car now starts every time with out any issues. Though when I had everything kinda hanging there with all the covers off I could here and feel the main relay clicking when it was missing out. I tried another known working main rely but it is still missing out and made the same noise.
What else is in the main relay circuit that could cause it to do that? Could the coil be the problem? Can it make the tach jump around and the car miss fire? Testing it while the ignition control switch was bad kind of voids me trying it on my car. I really don't want to throw more parts at it that won't fix it.
As I asked earlier is there anything that can cause the main relay to click like that while missfiring? What sendes signal to the relay? Any one have a wiring diagram?
Please and thank you for any help.

The ECU is involved with the main relay, you should search for a wiring diagram of the year/model accord you have.
the main relay controls the ignition AND fuel (pump) circuits.
I had a similar issue, changed the ignition switch, changed the control module in the distributer to no avail.
I took the main relay out of its housing plugged it back in and noticed the switch that feeds the fuel pump was intermittent (hence engine starved of fuel, starting issues, intermittent cut-out). Re-soldered all the joints and gave it a good dousing of WD40 and haven't had an issue since.
Hope this helps.
