whats type of performance tires i should buy?
so i have a 97 civic dx hatch, on 15 inch i believe civic si rims, and i also have somewhat stock suspension (havent dropped it yet).......but what would anyone suggest for good performance tires.
michigan. Personally I would run two set of wheels. One junky set for winter with snow tires. And one nice set for when there is no snow with summer tires (summer tires are designed to work well in rain and dry conditions above freezing temps). Depending on sizes some of the better summer tires are the Dunlop Star Spec, Bridgestone RE 11, Kumho Ecsta XS, Falken Azenis RT 615K, Yokohama Advan Neova AD08, Hankook Ventus RS3. Check out Tire Rack to find the tires available in your wheel size.
^^
that's a pretty broad offering ...
OP: What type of driving do you do? (eg. Autocross, drag, street, etc) What are you looking for in a tire?
If you're looking for a good wearing tire offering good performance, the yokohama s drive is a good choice... That's what I'll be ordering next time around...

I just really do alot of street driving, but its good you suggested Yokohama's cause i was interested in those too.
I know michigan,........onoly so much time for good driving...but anwyays during the winter i will getting a set of Blizzak WS60 tires for my car, i had them on another one of mine and the traction is unreal.
The last set of tires I bought were the Bridgestone Potenza RE960. Great tire, didn't roar on the road and handled really well. The lasted about as long as any other set I've tried. I've used Kumho AST's, Yok Parada's and spec 2's, Nitto 450's and 555's, Falken Ziex's and I'm sure there are a few that I've forgotten!!
The size you need is either 195/55-15 or 205/50-15.
Since you have a separate set of winter tires for winter, you can get summer tires for the other three seasons.
If you want the absolute best traction on dry pavement and you don't care about wet traction or how long your tires last or how much they cost, get one of these supersticky "extreme performance" tires:
Bridgestone Potenza RE-11 205/50-15
Dunlop Direzza Sport Z1 Star Spec 195/55-15 or 205/50-15
Kumho Ecsta XS 205/50-15
Toyo Proxes R1R 195/55-15 or 205/50-15
Yokohama Advan Neova AD08 205/50-15
If you are willing to give up a little dry traction for better wet traction, longer treadlife, and a lower purchase price, get one of these:
Yokohama S.drive 195/55-15 or 205/50-15
Fuzion ZRi 205/50-15
The Bridgestone Potenza RE960 mentioned above is an all-season tire. All-seasons are a compromise tire, designed for people who have to use them in winter conditions in winter, and in moderate to warm temperatures the rest of the year. They don't grip as well in winter as winter tires, and they don't grip as well as summer tires the rest of the year. In the nine months you'll be using these tires, they won't grip as well as ANY of the tires listed in this post.
