Default OT: Ford related, anyone good on Ford stuff ??

can;t find info on this anywhere, maybe someone knows... I have a 98 OBD2 F150 trcuk with c/e light, apparently a code scanner to simply read the codes on the ecm is about $150 to $200 ... I wonder if anyone knows how to jimmy rig something to get the code out for OBD2 Ford ? I dont care about turning off the c/e light jsut wann knwo what the hell is wrong witht he trcuk and what sensor or sensors is causing it because it bogs and feels like its runnign on 5 cylinders LOL.

lemme know if anyone can help.

thanks,
Greg

Maybe it is running on 5 cylinders? I'm guessing its a 4.2? A misfire will light the MIL.
Have you tried Autozone? Here in my area, they pull codes for free now.
Oh that MIL doesn't flash does it?
