Default How much would you pay?

I've had this car for almost 4 years and just want to try something else. I can estimate how much it's worth based on KBB and current prices. But after looking for a replacement on and off for quite a while, I'm convinced that there is nothing out there in remotely as good shape, in the same price range. People are asking insane prices for cars with body damage, mismatched body panels, needing work, etc. I have gone to see a handful of cars and they are always in worse shape.

Just wanted to know how much you would pay for a car like this. (maybe I should also ask a ridiculous price?)

1997 Civic EX
5 speed manual
no body rust, no dents, shiny paint
clean inside and out
all options work
dead reliable, 30+mpg avg
brand new timing belt

the not so good:
doesn't like to go into 2nd gear when it's below freezing outside (goes away when warmed up)
hairline crack in header that doesn't seem to leak
191k miles

KBB for your car in excellent condition is $2,750.

With your few imperfections, I'd say $2500 or so. Maybe $3000 if you find the right buyer.

I'd expect to pay around $2200 for it. Has it been wrecked before? Hood looks a bit off.

2500 or so sounds about right to me. but for me finding a clean shell is definitely worth spending the extra money if you have to.

Civic like this one dont pop up all to often around here

I always start a bit, so there is so wiggle room, and it makes the person feel like he's getting a deal.

Are those city or highway miles?

Definitely look into changing the tranny fluid. Is the header an aftermarket one or a stock manifold?

OK, a little clarification:

The hood - I highly doubt it's been wrecked in the front because all the body parts have stickers with the vin on them. I know what you mean, though, the hood closes a little more snugly on the drivers side for some reason.

The tranny - I did the flush with genuine honda MTF, but it did absolutely nothing. It's not really that big a deal, it only happens during the winter and I adapted to it.

The miles - are they city or highway? Who knows. I drive mostly highway, but I've only had it for 40,000 miles. When I first brought it home, no one could believe that it had 154k it was that clean. I'm not saying its mint, but for the money, you'd be hard pressed to find something as clean.

I was asking if the miles were city or highway because you stated the gas mileage. My '98 EX coupe gets 35-40+ mpg. It had nothing to do with the total mileage on the car.

been looking for pretty much that exact car around here (92-00 5speed) and they are all asking from 2-2900 with similar mileage. Just missed out on a 99 this morning for 2k about exact condition and mileage. Too bad you're not local
