I would like to modify my steering rack on my EG civic, do I need to take the engine out to do this?

makes it a lot easier, but can be done with the engine still in. just need to get it off the ground so you can get under it.

 

thats a pita without a lift......still is with the lift...just PITA

 

You can get to the steering rack, but it is a pain. Removing the motor might be more of a pain tho...

depends on the scope of your maintenance. If you're looking to give the motor a full once-over, checkin out all the hoses and connections, it could be worth it.

 

you might be able to buy yourself some room if you drop the cradle out of the bottom. more room always makes any job a little easier. i don't think you have to remove the whole motor though...

 

Removing the engine deffinetly is not required, but boy it makes it a lot easier.
Done it twice without and it was a bitch each time

 

i had to replace it on my del sol, well i was young so my dad did most of it, but i remember it was def a pita but very doable with the engine in, and we did it in the garage with no lift
