I cant id my b series tranny
The tranny is mated to a 95 GSR.
It all came out of a 95 GSR..... And I do know the engine is a 95.
The tranny has the sticker code still on it that says..... S80 2034185 ..... Its all intact.
There is 2 mall holes where a vin tag must have been at one time but is no longer there.
There is no vin tags on the engine and no spots where they ever had been.
I was told that they didnt have the green vin tags until the late 90's but I dont know.
I would really like to find out what this tranny is without splitting it open.........
PLEASE HELP......................... Thanx

Is there threads in those holes where the vin usually is. If there are no threads then its either a jdm trans or a factory replacement. If there is evidence of tampering or the holes are tapped then its stolen.
There is no sign of tampering......
No threads in the holes......
No marks of any kind of it ever having any tag or anything ever there.
The case has never been painted or anything.
Its like 2 perfect machined holes that are about a quarter inch deep and all enclosed like a dowel pin hole....
I first thought that it had a tag that was removed cuz it was probably stolen, but there was never anything there.
I guess Im gonna have to have it opened up to tell what the hell it is...........

The 1995 GSR came with a Y80 transmission, an S80-2 without a VIN tag is probably a JDM transmission. After you open the cases count the teeth on the mainshaft 3rd gear: 24 teeth = ITR/B16, 25 teeth = GSR, 26 teeth = LS.
If you want to try to ID the transmission without opening it you can try to see the ID mark on the gear face on 3rd by removing the idler gear pin bolt and looking in with a flashlight. The ID mark is a notch ground in the tip of the gear teeth. ITR/B16 = no mark, GSR = 1 mark, LS = 2 marks.
