Default Tech Help: Catback Install

Hey guys. I'm picking up a used apex n1 catback tomorrow for the R.

I was wondering what I need for the install. I have 4 car stands, 1 jack, 1 torque wrench, 12mm socket, a catback system, the R and a buddy.

Is that pretty much all i need? Do i need stuff like new gaskets or hangers (2001 itr with 7000kms)?

Thanks a lot.

BTW, how high do I roughly need to jack up the car? I have a feeling I won't be able to get it high enough. Any ways to boost it up?

12" to 18" is good. you might need a 13mm-16mm just in case. i forget if i used those. new gaskets are always good. i hope you are getting hardware with that catback as well. easy install, good luck.

the 3 bolts from the b pipe to the cat are a B!TCH. the top bolt is damn nearly impossible even with a torque wrench. make sure you have alotta lube and a long extension for your wrench. other than that it's simple. good luck.

hangers need wd40 like mentioned, fairly easy if you let it soak a bit. the cat if you never took off the cat before, you will see lots of rust. i dont even thinkg you will have clearance to get the leverage to use a breakerbar properly.

a lift would make it much easier

edit: also wear glasses or goggles if you dont want crap to fall into your eyes

You best bet for the bolts on the cat are stop by a shop and sweet talk a mechanic into hitting them with an air gun. break them loose and hand tighten them back.

The top bolt of the 3 is a bitch to get off regardless

Agreed, go to a shop and have them bust those three bolts behind the cat off w/ an air gun, I've spent tons of time on my back trying to break those loose with no leverage, it's no fun to say the least...

Thanks for the advice everyone.

but it's all wasted now.

I went straight from the bus terminal (went hom from uni) to meet the guy at 12:30 in the morning. Waited 1 hour. Called him 3 times. No reply.

I get home to find an email saying that he sold it to someone else.

Damn bastard.

Don't buy from DC8888 or spoon3168@hotmail.com
