My dybo of 01 ITR motor with bolt ons and chips. What do you think?
Finally had time to dyno my new 01 ITR motor. It is basically stock except for bolt ons. Mugen 4-1 header, AEM intake, Greddy PE exhaust, hiflow cat, VAFC and chips(skunk2, mugen, obdI GSR). I guess it is about average for a ITR but the GSR computer surprised me. It made the most peak(fuel cutoff spike) but still worked ok with minimal vafc tuning. Mugen chip did not perform to well. Skunk2 was the best but was very rich.

Forgot to mention. I didn't have time to switch to my lighter weight race wheels so the dyno runs were made with my heavy *** 17" street wheels. Don't know if it would have made much of a difference but they are are at least 10lbs heavier than my race wheels per corner.

<---bad eyes...... hoping that says 161.3 instead of 181.3.
Guess thats what too much time infront of the monitor will do to ya

That's pretty nice. I can't believe the SKunk2 chip held the power for another 1000 RPM. Nice
Before going to the dyno, my butt dyno told me that the Skunk2 chip would make the most power overall, not just peak, and I was correct. The stock GSR ecu was a big surprise as with only a little tuning it was able to make so much power. Shows you that the factory program is still good if you have minimal mods. I also dynoed a Vision chip and it was very similar to the Skunk2 but the SKunk2 had slightly better mid range so we decided to use that one to make our final adjustments. Here is the kicker. If you just dropped in the Skunk2 ecu with no tuning, it hit 177.3 hp peak and had very similar mid range. Down maybe 3-5 hp from the final settings I have. We also changed the VTEC point from 4800 to 4500 to get the better mid range. The only down side is that with all the aftermarket ecus I used the idle and cruising A/F ratio was too rich. I think this is because the aftermarket ecus bypass the closed loop function of the ecu.
It doesn't read the O2 sensor to adjust fuel so it just runs super rich. I will try and lean it out with the VAFC but not sure if it will be enough.
I assume a stock ITR ecu would have produced similar numbers to the Skunk2 but have better fuel economy but the VTEC point would have to be lowered.

I did want to point out that even though the GSR ecu made more peak power, that is just because we hit the fuel cutoff point. The Skunk2 ecu made more power throughout the power band and did not have the drop in the midrange like the GSR ecu did. On the track it would mean the Skunk2 chip will be much faster...
What are other people getting with similar setups for ITR motors???

Very nice numbers Anslem.....
I know that you are not into drag, but I would like to know what you would run inthe 1320.

Hey AW, I have very similar set up with you, but I got the DC JDM header instead of Mugen and i got a set of Cam Gears too. Same chips but running on P28, and I got short ram ARC intake. Anyways, I dyno it earlier this year and only got 173whp. I had gained alot in the midrange, 12-15whp..but my top end just wouldn't go up. The place I dyno at didn't have a wideband O2 sensor, who tuned it for you and which dyno did you go to? can you tell me the place and I REALLY want to get it tune on a dyno wiht a wideband this time.
Hi Wayne
I expect the 1/4 mile to come in the low 14's to very high 13's. The previous setup I had which was very similar but probably had about 5 more hp. I think I timed it roughly in the high 13's. I think the ITR tranny makes a big difference. Most people I know who run the 1/4 mile with ITR and bolt ons get in the high 13's to low 14's around here.

The place I went is DynoPower Services in Scarborough near Kennedy HiFi. See the dyno chart for their number. They reccently got the O2 sensor. I am running my chips on a P08 but that should not make a difference. I am running stock cam gears but I did advance the timing to 18 degrees. I can't remember but do you have a exhaust and hiflo cat? Gilman auto did the tuning for me. Actually just dropping in the Skunk2 got me 177hp. No tuning required at all. So maybe I just have a stronger motor?

what exctaly is skunk2 chip?
is it a ecu or a "chip"
where can i get it and how much do they go for?
so is it like i have to replace my ecu with the skunk2 ecu? or just add some chip on stock ecu?
sorry i am a newb on these things
thx alot

Skunk2 chip means an OBDI VTEC computer chipped so that it can use an ecu chip with someone else's program. There are many places that sell these chips. I got mine from hyperducktuning. They work great for racing but fuel economy goes down big time because the computer only operate on open loop. Meaning closed loop operation(where the ecu reads the O2 sensor and adjusts fuel) which is vital for good fuel economy is not active. I am going to try to lean out the narrow throttle on my VAFC to see if I can reduce the fuel wasted at part throttle and crusing.

Hey Anselm, yep my name is Kevin. I guess you got a stronger motor, but I really want to get it tune, so do I jsut call that place of the dyno up? or do i make an appointment with gilman??
oh I am using test pipe and Apex'i N1 btw...still, didn't help enough on the high end.
above 7000 the cruve just wouldn't move, try lean it and rich it up..still didn't move

What chip are you running and what are you using to adjust the fuel? VAFC or fuel pressure regulator. What timing are you running?
If you want to get it tuned. Call Gilman auto and ask for Raymond. 416-289-1388. He can set you up for a tuning session for your car.

I consider no internal work basically stock
If you consider my GSR ecu run with no adjustments that is getting very basic. Intake, header(would be same as JDM ITR) and exhaust does not do much. No fuel pressure regulator or cam gears to adjust with. VAFC was set to no adjustments. I guess I hang around too many Jun and Toda modified cars so I consider my setup stock

I am also running the skunk2 chip, with V-AFC and fuel pressure regulator but the guy who tuned it for me set the FPR to stock~
don't know why..but I will give him a call asap...how much does he usually charge per hr? and how much does that dyno place charge per hr?
