loosen the locking nut on the bracket that holds the cable, adjust the tension nut to whatever you need to get it to shift properly, and tighten. might take a couple of tries to get it right.

Throttle Cable Synchronization
On Honda Transmissions with a throttle valve cable “T.V. Cable”, it is important to synchronize the throttle cable and T.V. cable before the final adjustment or “Fine Tuning” is done. Cables that are out of sync can cause a variety of shifting problems because of the imbalance of pump pressure to throttle position.

Synchronize cables by first checking the throttle cable adjustment. Remove all of the slack, but DO NOT let the throttle plate come off of the stop. Then, remove all of the slack from the T.V. cable and adjust until the T.V. arm starts to lift. At this point, you are ready to fine tune the T.V. cable adjustment. Tightening the cable will increase pressure and extend shift points. Loosening the cable will decrease pressure and allow earlier shift points. If the cable is too loose the clutches may slip causing premature transmission failure.

I know most people probably adjust their cables to shift how they want them...but I sold my '92 LX to my uncle and I'm still working on it. Just put a trans in this weekend and it isn't shifting into second until 2500 rpm at a fairly light throttle. I know that is too high but not sure what is "normal".

normal is about 3000 rpm 1-2 and 2-3 shifts under normal driving.

I was getting a 2500 rpm upshift from 1-2 and it was too high...it would throw you back when it shifted. Are you sure?

It's been quite a while since I drove one, but when I had the automatic in my '94 sedan it was probably shifting right around 3 grand under normal driving (only had a tach for about the last week the automatic was in there so I didn't pay a whole lot of attention to what it was shifting at) at wide open throttle it should upshift from 1st to 2nd at the redline.

Well I only drove it about 5 miles and could tell it wasn't right. It would rev like it was slipping and then slam you back when it shifted...very delayed. I found a service manual online that someone had scanned and adjusted it accordingly and it shifted fine after that. Been driving great....
