Default B18C Issues.....

Need some help, my last track experience was depressing.

Car is '00 Civic EX, swapped B18C GSR. The motor has ITR pistons, CTR cams, Skunk 2 manifold, ITR header, 2.5 exhaust.

Last summer this set up with a GSR transmission went 14.3 @ 101mph on street tires. At the time it was running a PWJDM intake.

Fast forward to this summer with a SI tranny and a Injen intake.

First track date went 14.59@94 and this past Friday night car went 14.8@93 so the only real differences are the intake and GSR vs. SI trans. I always heard and thought the SI tranny would make the car quicker in 1/4.

Motor burns very very little oil between changes, maybe 1/4 of a quart over 3500miles. Running same ECU (chipped P30).

Compression test read 240 across all four cylinders, no leak down test yet.

Can the simple fact of the different transmission be my problem? Should I get the valves adjusted? I haven't done it since I got motor, could this be an issue? Just looking for ideas to get my car back like it was. I know that last summer the car ran consistent 14.40's with a best of 14.3 on street tires. Ran once on slicks and it went 14.0, popped axle next pass which is what lead to the gsr transmissions demise. Thanks for help guys.

1. Get it tuned. Your MPH is telling more than your times.
2. Get a dedicated set of track only tires.
3. Practice.

Would the change of gearing with the transmissions explain any of the mph difference? I mean, I'm not a professional driver but I am known in town for being able to drive pretty well. I ran consistent 14.3 to 14.4 last summer, now the car is down 5mph and half a second through 1/4 mile....I am running the same chip as last summer, the shop I went to got a list of my mods and basically used chrome to make me a chip. I know it's not as good as a full tune, but it worked well last year. You don't think it is an engine issue? Or possibly just the change of tranny? Thanks.

Forgot to say, I also have A/C and P/S on the car now....just can't see that causing my problem.

This explains part of it.

A/C PS might be about 10whp at the most.
With the GSR transmission did you have to shift into 4th or stay in 3rd?
Same question about the SI trans?
You are down on power some place. I would say about 20ish. It is hard to say with out a dyno graph to look over and confirm your shift rpm. Normally your shift rpm is 200-300rpm after you peak HP.
Get it tuned, that chip might be part of the problem. It might not like your your new intake.

Not at home right now, but I'll post up time slip soon.

When I had GSR tranny I barely shifted into 4th, if I could have revved to 9k i would stay in 3rd. With Si tranny I am in 4th a good bit longer then I was with the GSR.

I know my 60ft times were slower this time around, I usually run in the 2.2's.....Last time it was high 2.3's, all the cars were having some trouble off the line this past time. Maybe I'm looking too much into this and just had a bad track day.

I know that the previous time when I was running 14.5's pretty consistent I was still down on MPH, but technically I was only 2 tenths off of what I ran previous summer, guess weather could play a part in that.

The car does seem down a little bit. Maybe a new tune is in order. I thought going from the PWJDM to Injen would benefit me, always heard PWJDM were ****.

I am trying to get valve adjustment before this next weekend. I'm going to try to get back to the track with the P/S and A/C belts off.

I also swapped plugs I don't know if this matters, but I was running a BKR7e-11 at the last track day. I know they are a step colder, NGK told me to go a step colder because with my GSR block/ITR cams/GSR head, I should be around 11.5:1 compression. I pulled plugs and took em to part store along with an old set up BKR6e-11 and the old man there said looked like the 6 heat range were running better. Any info on this? Basic build, GSR longblock with ITR internals.

Keep in mind that not only did you loose a little whp with the AC/PS, you gained a little weight...maybe 50-75 lbs? Not sure. I think it's like -.1 for every 100 lbs you add.
