Default Pressure Plate and clutch install

I had just purchased a clutch kit. I was wondering is this normal ? I cant seem to bolt my clutch onto my engine. I feel that if i keep screwing the pressure plate bolts i would crush the disc.

With clutch disc / pressure plate on flywheel

Without clutch disc / just pressure plate on flywheel

Pressure plate fins protruding outwards.

Thickness of clutch disc off of flywheel on top of pressure plate.

I found this thread, but didnt find any answers.

Well you have to tighten the pressure plate to the point that the fins are "flat." Does the clutch fit inside the pressure plate? Where did you buy the kit? And what brand is it?

You may also need a stepped flywheel to fit all that in there, was there any indication of requiring a stepped flywheel setup when you purchased the kit?

I think i will tighten the pressure plate. I figured the pressure plate should fit flush against the flywheel with the clutch disc inside. Right now there is a gap between the pressure plate and flywheel "while" the disc is inbetween and inside the pressure plate. The clutch does fit inside the pressure plate.

I purchased the clutch from thmotorsports. I have pmed and emailed them already.
The clutch kit i purchased is an exedy khc05.

This is what i found on the exedy website.

KHC13 1997 - 1998 INTEGRA TYPE-R L4; 1.8L; Non-Turbo; Gas(B18C5)
KHC13 1997 - 1998 INTEGRA TYPE-R L4; 1.8L; Non-Turbo; Gas(B18C5)
KHC12 2000 - 2001 INTEGRA TYPE-R L4; 1.8L; Non-Turbo; Gas(B18C5)
KHC12 2000 - 2001 INTEGRA GSR L4; 1.8L; Non-Turbo; Gas(B18C1)
KHC05 1994 - 1999 INTEGRA GSR L4; 1.8L; Non-Turbo; Gas(B18C1)

below are identical with respect to their specifications (Disc outer diameter / Spline teeth).

----------------------------------------------------------
Part Number: KHC12
Part Number: KHC05

Disc Outer Diameter 219mm(8-5/8in)
Spline Teeth / Major Diameter 24T / 1-1/16in

------------------------------------------------------------

I did notice that for Part Number: KHC13 the specifications are listed below.

Disc Outer Diameter 210mm(8-1/4in)
Spline Teeth / Major Diameter 24T / 1-1/16in

Is the disc outer diameter referencing to the overall diameter of the clutch or pressure plate? or is it measuring the depth of the pressure plate?

As you mentioned I feel that if i keep screwing on the bolts that I will crush the clutch disc and will have to buy another clutch disc. As I screw the pressure plate bolts it appears theres already load against the pressure plate and clutch disc. It would be tricky to get the pressure plate centered evenly to sandwich the clutch disc.

I feel that if i have a stepped flywheel I would not be able to thread in the pressure plate bolts.

My current flywheel is an ITR with gsr tranny.

I think i will just tighten the pressure plate so the fins are flat. I assume that the fins will become flat as i tighten the pressure plate. If it does, damn me for being too careful.

It was my error. Clutch fits. I just had to tighten pressure plate bolts. The instructions did mentioned that the fingers should be flat instead of protruding. As i tightened the bolts t he fingers became flat. The instructions indicated the fingers should of been flat when installing. I guess from factory the fingers were protruding instead of flat.

Yep, they come protruded, but you tighten them flat.
