No way to tell without disassembling it or driving it. i was told by an Acura tech that all 92-93 cable transmissions are labeled ys1

Yeah, it's pretty tough by just looking at it considering all model Integra's were badged Ys1 in the 92-93 years as mentioned earlier.

Either you open up the tranny and start counting teeth, or you install it, and have very obvious gearing

Personally, when ever i buy a YS1, i make sure to pull if right off a complete swap so i know what i'm getting

Spline count is to tell the difference between older s1-y1 trannys with a smaller input shaft vs the ys1's larger input
the ys1 can intergange with the hydro trans (except gsr ring gear)

to tell the difference in trannys you must count final gear TEETH!

the only REAL difference between the year models of 92-93 and the whole 90-93 is 92-93 was different from all others because of the the xsi and the gsr!

put that in ye pipe n schmoke it

AND if you REALLY wanna get technical its split up into FOUR different catagories.

YS1
JDM 92-93
Integra RSi/XSi
US 92-93 GSR

YS1
JDM 89-91
civic/crx SiR

S1/J1
JDM 90-91
Integra RSi/XSi

S1/YS1
US 90-93

Dude, that's not the only difference!

92-93 Tranny's (all of them) switched the the larger size main shaft. that changes everything. In fact, that was the design that carried right through to the year 2001

the parts are not interchangable from the small style shaft on 90-91 models....pretty big difference !

no no, you got me wrong, i did read you earlier posts, you were looking to be able to tell the difference between different model Ys1 tranny's......that question got answered.

My last post was in response to yours! I don't want other people reading that and think they are all about the same, so i stated the differences. No need to be so defensive, everything is cool

My .02 cents.

Unless YOU SEE it separated from a B17 yourself, I'd be very, very skeptical that any YS1 was a GSR YS1.

Seeing as there were thousands, if not hundreds of thousands, of RS, LS, and GS geared YS1's, and only maybe 5000-7000 B17-YS1 combos made. And that's not even taking into account the pairs that are still running in original, still operating gen 2 GSR's.

Well, I guess I was wrong, because according to Wikipedia there were only 2200, gen 2 GSR's built, so the chances of your YS1 being a genuine GSR YS1, just fell by a factor of 4.

For the most part, this is your best bet!!!

Keep in mind there is an exception to this.......

My second YS1 is jdm spec. Japan never got a B17A. They did have an obdI 2nd gen B16A that came with the YS1 that came out of the 1991-92 Honda Integra XSi. One other very cool thing is that although rare (about 1 out of 15) these jdm spec YS1 vtec tranny's could be had with a factory option LSD, which at that time was contracted through quaiffe

I bought the whole engine package just to get that option, awesome!!!

It's hard to see the tranny in this pic, but it's the only one i have. This came out of a 1992 Honda Integra. Attached was the jdm spec YS1 vtec tranny (same gearing as the usdm ITR) and also has the LSD option

I see maybe 1 of these packages per every thousand swaps that come in from Japan- RARE!

Map sensor on DA Integra's was on the firewall. All other newer civic's and integra's had the map on the TB

Here's where my crx sits as of today....so hard to find the time/money to finish it off, but it will happen

Did you read this before you posted it? Soooo much bad information.

All close ratio YS1 transmissions have the same gearing. They were only available from '92-'93. I would rather have a LS/RS/GS YS1 than any other cable transmission (besides a GSR/XSI).
