Need help removing dust covers on stock shocks to access bump stops
Good afternoon. I searched and didn't find anything useful.
I can't get the metal dust covers off my stock rear shocks to get out the bump stops which I need for my Koni/GC set up. The stealership doesn't stock them and I don't feel like waiting, especially with perfectly good ones on my stock shocks.
Does anyone have any tips on getting the corroded covers off without breaking them? I'd prefer not to hack them apart, since I may want to switch back to them if I sell the car, but I guess stock shocks are pretty cheap.
Also, would it be a horrible idea to use the two rubber bushings from each of my stock top hats (replaced them with Energy ones) together as bump stops if i can get them over the welded washer rest on the Konis? Put together the two equal about 2 inches, which is what people recommend cutting the stock bump stops to anyway.
THANKS!

the dust cover should just slide right off. You arent talking about that metal ring that goes around the piston are you?
if so once the spring is off, flip the shock over, and tap on it with a hammer, dont hit the piston, But a couple good taps and it should slide right off.

Maybe my distressed post wasn't clear. These things were rusted and corroded on to the max. Thank you for your input regardless.
Anyway, I got it. I guess with enough PB Blaster, prying, and hammering you can accomplish anything.
