My budget GSR EF hatch build! Help needed!
Sup Honda-Tech, I'm 17, don't know a whole lot about cars but some what. I just got this car this past christmas and I love it, EF's have always been my favorite. Anywho, the motor for this crap has always had problems for me so I'm tired of the stock engine. I'm soon to start the process of a GSR swap.
So here's the deal, I'm getting a 2000 GSR motor with 70k miles for $1,100 with computer, and axles. He does not have the headers for it. After I'm going for either an ls or b16a(first generations) CABLE transmissions.
My budget is somewhere around $1500-$2000. Now, I know there's going to be a few things I have to take care of before I'm actually ready to start this up. So here's a list of what I THINK I need for the most part, if you guys see anything I might be missing help out please:
- wire jumper harness
- EF hassport mounts
- proper computer needed for this swap (not sure which one)?
- headers (thinking 4-1 headers)?
- proper axles for the swap (not sure which ones)?
that's all i can name that i think are MANDATORY, if you guys have any tips, suggestions, please help me out with this. i'll keep this updated with my progress and pics when i have free time on my hands. thanks in advance for reading and all help coming! for now here's just a quick peek at her:

axles would be 90 tegs. and get the mid shaft to match. also dont forget the rear t bracket from a b series unless it already has it. and also you will need shift linkage. i reccomend buying integra linkage and cutting to fit
It is a good idea to assume your budget will run over by anywhere from 25% to 50% of what you originally planned for. mine went over about 250%, but I ended up going all out...
If the motor has a header, keep it. Get the thing running without the extras first, then upgrade later.
You'll have to first convert to mpfi, then to obd-1 (im assuming the engine you're getting is obd-1). If you run an obd-1 p72 you wont need to tune until you have lots of new go-fast goodies on it.
If you are new to cars, fund someone local to come out and help you with the wiring. If they run wires straight between the engine harness and car harness with no connectors (oem from a junkyard will work, a pro will usually use weather-pack or similar) you wont be able to disconnect the engine harness from the car, which will look ugly under the dash and be a pain down the line, either for you or someone else.
Good luck with the build man.

well im willing to go further with the budget after a few more paychecks to come. but for now im just tryign to get the thing in my car and running lol. thanks for all the adivce though guys!
As far as your ecu I agree that if you want to do any further tuning, such as turbo or a motorbuild in general convert to obd1. If you just want a stock motor you could convert to obd2 which will be a little more complex but the ecus arent as desirable. The ecu you should get is a p72 this is the code for all gsr engines. Just make sure you get the one specific to your obd, there is probably a list of codes somewhere on the site FAQ's. Besides the hasport mounts all of the other parts you have listed are not too expensive or too hard to come by just keep your eyes and ears open and enjoy the build. Cleanly ef btw.
unless you know what your doin i would not recoment cutting the shift linkage to fit. my buddy has plenty of problems with getting into gears with a cut linkage hasport makes one specifically for your ef and b series swap!! or most tuners fabricate their own linkages. i have an extra brand new Ef linkage for b series in the garage if you in fact need one. shoot a PM.
i baught avid linkage, and ended up cutting it anyway it was to short. and the universal joint in it is weak, had slop before i put it on and i baught it brand new

well all this is sounding like plenty of work, and my boy keeps telling me to just do ls because it's so much simpler. Plus im still in school and work a 20-35 hour a week job.. if anything im thinking about going ls non v-tech for now and just worrying about making my car/engine bay look clean.. maybe a little boost later?
opinions would be nice?
