Hi i have a 1999 Honda Accord LX. The key is stuck in the ignition. Right when you get to the point to push and turn to release the key it wont let you. I hear a click by the glove box area when i turn it to the furthest point. This all started when i shut the car off in drive by mistake. Since then the key will not come out. What can I check to start trouble shooting? Thanks in advance

 

I would check the park pin switch/circuit. If the system doesn't know the vehicle is actually in Park the key can't be removed from the ignition.

Not the only possiblility but I have encountered this a few times.

 

were is that located?? An update.. I did notice that the key turns the furthest when the gear selector is in D1..

 

Also the steering wheel wont lock

 

The switch is located under the center console, below the gear shift lever. The shift lever physically operates this switch.

 

Have you turned the key to the "ON" position and placed the shifter in "Park"???

 

had this happen to a 98 Odyssey. just takes patience and alot of jiggling... once you get the key out. spray some wd in the cylinder and insert the key a bunch of times.. DONT TURN IT ON.. just in and out.. get the pins in there all slippery. if it keeps sticking in the future, you will need to get a new key cut.. 98 Odyssey had a new key and hasn't stuck in a year..
