Hello all,
I am going to pick up a complete engine and transmission for my civic today. I want to make sure that the junk yard give me the right parts. (I am getting a 1.6L SOHC VTEC off of 95 civic EX) I know how too look at the engine code and determine what type of engine it is, but I have no idea how to identify if the transmission is correct for that engine. I've heard that the LX model (which is the model that I have - 1.5L non-VTEC) have "long gears" vs the EX (1.6L SOHC VTEC) "short gears"???.

My question is: how do I know if the junk yard give me the right transmission which it is for the 1.6l SOHC Vtec? is there a number on the tranny that help me identify it? Please help.

look to see if there is a stamp by the passenger side axle of the transmission that says B000 thats the ex/si tranny large bearing short gear. A000 will be the opposite GL

 

tht all on that transmission, but do not mix up with model no. too

 

Sounds like your getting a s20 tranny(92-95 trannies)
Check the passnger side of the differential where the axle goes. Right above that their will be a letter and a number.
B000=Short gears
A000+ Long gears
