I recently bought a 99 Civic CX, 5 spd with an Audiovox APS-997N alarm system installed. The alarm system has a remote start function as well. The engine runs fine with no issues. Yesterday when I attempted to drive it, the engine started then immediently shut off (within 1 sec). I repeated this action 10 times with the same result. I tried the remote start function and the car started up and stayed running, no problem. But as soon as I turned it off and back on manually it would not remain running. After retrying enough times it will eventually stay on but it takes 20+ starts.
I have no idea where to start troubleshooting. I dont think this is a mechanical/tune up issue as the engine runs beautifully otherwise. Plus the fact that the remote start works everytime indicates it has something to do with that system. Does anyone have any ideas?

Today it shut off while driving in 3rd gear. Tach and engine went dead but accessories like the radio stayed on. Has to be the ignition switch right?

Turns out it was the ignition switch after all. I had it fixed for free at the dealership under the 2002 Ignition switch recall.
this mourning my car alarm went off for no apparent reason, but on the way to work the hood opened up on my wife so i think some how they popped the hood how i dont know
crimnals got to much rights but like a cop told me dead man tell no tails
owning a honda is a stressful ordeal

The hood is easely popped on Honda/Acura, no tools needed.
Re-route the hood release cable from in the drivers front fender to inside the engine bay, not a very hard "fix".
A "block off plate" can also easly be made and installed below hood latch to prevent the hood being popped with a coat hanger, [from underneath]. 94
