Default Why is my H22 eating up my cams?!?!?!?

I've had my H22 in my Accord for almost a year now...one night I missed a shift went from 3rd to 2nd and messed some valves up in the head. I thought no problem, I'll just get new valves, springs, ret and a port job, which I did. The guy who did it had an extra H22 head sitting around from some kids motor that he blew up with too much n2o but anyway, he did all the work to that head and once it was done, I just traded heads. Anyway I got the motor all together drove it about 3 months and couldn't get the valves to stop making noise. I eventually take it to a friend who works for the guy who built my head and he tries to do a valve adjustment and it fails b/c we notice the cam has been badly worn away on the #1 cylinder exhaust side. He and the guy who built my head said it was b/c of lack of lubrication b/c I had the wrong dipstick in the car and not enough oil. Anyway I bought a whole another used head and replaced the cams and that one set of rocker arms b/c that was trashed too(only the #1 cylinder exhaust side). I get it back together and now as I do another valve adjustment 3 weeks after I just replaced my cams that same cam lobe is already showing signs of wear?!?!?!? I have plenty of oil in the motor so why is it still eating up that cam lobe and rocker!?!? I've left a message on the guys machine hopefully he'll call me. But anyway, does anyone have any idea what could be wrong, its all aftermarket valves, springs, ret....my neighbor said it may be the wrong spring or too much tension for it but the guy who built it swears its 100% perfect...what the hell do I do?!?!?!?

I think there's too many variables involved here for anyone to help over a message forum.

Find someone you know is qualified, and have them look at it. Good luck . . . .

when you put the cam caps on, did you tighten them in sequence according to how HONDA recommends? Also, did you use the cam caps that CAME with the used head? You can not use cam caps from one head and use them on another or interchange them with others. if you do this, you have to take it to a machine shop to make sure they are the right tolerances. is there anyway you can take a picture of the cam lobe that is wearing down? it sounds to me like the 2 exhaust valve assembly was not installed correctly on that certain cylinder. if it was 100% perfect you would not be showing signs of wear on your camshaft lobe....

What kind of cams are you running? Are the springs aftermarket as well? If the spring pressure is too high You could cause a metal to metal situation to occur. I have seen this type of damage done when improper springs are used. Also, what is your oil pressure like under load in the uper RPM's? if it isn't high enough (at least 80 psi) around 8000 RPM then you may be starving the head from oil this can also cause extensive wear. I would check atleast the oil pressure first and then find out what type of valve control (springs) you have and go from there.

I tighten them fine both times just like the book said from Honda. The caps were from that head yes...I'm thinking the valve assembly wasn't put together properly but the guy who built it swears it is 100% so I dunno what to do...either take it to Honda to fix and if he did do it wrong, sue him or take it apart myself and hope I find sumthing but I doubt it?!?!?

well obviously he did not install that head correctly... you mentioned the kid blew the motor of the head you got, correct? I wouldnt have got the head, you should have kept your head that you knew nothing was wrong with. the head could be the problem, you never know... you and i both know something is wrong, therefore it is not 100% installed correctly.

sounds like your getting *** raped. he probably put the head gasket on upside down. aha see if you have to run different clearences with those springs and retainers. make sure he is using the right feeler guage numbers too. some people use the mm and some dont...

I put the head gasket on fine, I'm using the .006mm and .007mm gauges...i couldn't have fucked up adjusting the valves the same lobe twice!! I called the guy...he beleives that oil is not getting to that lobe....i'm gonna start my car without the valve cover and see if oil is dripping onto tthat lobe, if not then there is the problem , if yes then there is a problem with those valve springs.

Aww the H22 rocker/cam wear. Due a search, this has been covered but with NO REAL proof of anything; just theories.

Im not going to get to in depth as ive posted it a crapload of times... I had the exact same issue with JDM cams and supertech spreings/retainers and ferrea valves... EX Vtak rockers were getting OWNED 2 sets in about 1500 miles each.

but i saw this:

http://www.animegame.com/cars/Oil%20Tests.pdf

THINK OF YOUR ROCKERS AND CAMS AS THE WEAR AREA AND TELL ME WHICH OIL YOU THINK WILL HELP....

and read about the lack of Zinc dithiophosphate and other additives in US manufactured oils (due to EPA standards)...

Switched from bandwagon Mobile 1 to 10-30 royal purple and have not had ANY issues whatsoever since.... EXACT same issue as you were having and listened to everyones opinions (rangiung from rocker material to me ****ing up my lash... neither which was the issue)... Tried the and not even a hint of wear in over 10K HARD BEATEN miles

TRUST ME IT WILL WORK
