Goin for 600whp but kinda screwed!! HELP!
Think im kind of screwed but maybe you dudes could help me out. I have a dyno tune appointment for evans next tuesday an I didnt find out that my clutch isnt going to hold the tq untill today. I have an exedy stage 2 with the thick disc. I know your suppose to break in a new clutch with 500miles but as of right now if I get a new clutch I can't break it in within a enough time. Let's say I put a new clutch in an go to the dyno couldnt I just break it in on the dyno? I mean we break motors in on the dyno why not a clutch?
Other thing I was thinking about was to find a newly used clutch an pay to have it 2-day express. Idk but im shooting for 600whp an the motor will make it but my clutch will not.

i had this issue at one point in time as well... and the way i went about justifying me driving it hard was:
the break in period you drive easy, ie. dont dump the clutch and stuff but: when the clutch is engaged... its engaged right?... i dont see an issue gettin on the dyno and and hittin the gas as long as you dont dump the clutch or do any 2 step and anti lag testing.
so i justified it, did it and i have had zero issues. Engage the clutch softly and let it settle for a few seconds... then punch it!
DISCLAIMER: these are my experiences, i may have just been lucky and got away with it, i am not a technician. these are just my thoughts and opinions.

I found a guy on the marketplace with a used twin disc thats newly used. As of right now once he gets back to me I think im going to drive to pick up the clutch. I mean shipping would take too long an I dont have that kind of time.
Hopefully I can get the twin in by saturday because I cant wait any longer to have the tune rescheduled. I been working on this project since november of 2008.

might get flamed for this but.... my friends and i have never broken in our clutches... both of my buddies broke theres in on the dyno while getting tuned and have over 10k on them no problems yet..
i just installed a stage 3 clutch before my dyno tune and just blasted away at it
probably not the best advice but it can be done but maybe there just lucky... who knows?
i say buy a new one... put it in and get it tuned and then chill on it for a bit

Yeah but what if the clutch burns up while getting tuned? Then my tuning session would be cut short an it would be the exact samething as going there with the exedy stage 2. I mean a new single disc that has to handle atleast 400ftlbs of torque costs around 500bucks. The twin cost alot more but worth it in the end.
i donnu i think break in a clutch is bull ****.... ive had long line of cars all clutches ive installed ive abused from the start and havent had issues... maybe ive been lucky dont know...

some clutches need to be broken in (read it's advised)
breaking in a clutch has little to do with applieng power once engaged.
when breaking it in you don't apply power during engaging, so no heavy preloading and feathering under full power.
dynotuning....just hit it.
used twin disk (carbon) is a good investment, they last a lifetime

Why are you worried about breaking in a clutch that is not going to hold the power anyway? Your going to trash it once you try to race the car, so just tune with it and go on about your day. Jeff used a Dynopack, he just sticks your car in 4th gear and goes, there is no resistance on the hubs until he says so.......
Breaking in an organic/full-faced clutch is similar to brakes, just with the long break-in period. You want to wear it flat w/o glazing those initial high-spots.
Breaking in a ceramic/puck clutch is usually like narfdanarf said. Just don't overheat it (slip it like crazy, 8k launches) in the first few miles and you're fine.
If it's a dyno queen, just get the single. Twin discs are for much higher holding power with much better drivability - or control/slippage if you're racing.

Just got off of the phone an im having a Spec stage 5 clutch overnighted 2mrw night. So ill have the clutch by thursday afternoon. Im dropping the trans 2mrw night so once the clutch is here ill put it on. Thankful to have a credit card handy or else id be screwed.
Yes I know the dyno is a dynapack because I just got a email from Jeff yesterday saying that my exedy stage 2 would slip on the dyno. Why trailer my car all the way there an only put down 400whp when I know I could make 600whp then id have to go back later on. Big waste of time an gas.

What are you refering to when you said "The triple". Also the spec stage 5 can handle 575ftlbs of tq so why would I run from it? Just because its a single plated clutch an not a multiplated clutch doesnt mean it can't handle the power.
