Default have you used this hidden fm antenna?

i am considering this antenna:

http://www.kapscomoto.com/Hidden-AM-...ssic-p572.html

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/ima...1&s=automotive

i don't know if it's made by kapsco, i can't find an indication of any brand name. i am interested in it because of the built in amplifier. i won't mind this black box at the top of my front or rear window.

a lot of these style antennas have bad reviews on amazon, but most don't mention 12v wire for the amplifier. this one only has 2 reviews but both are decent.

has anyone used this specific antenna?

That looks similar to a Metra one I've used in the past. It picks up local stations...ok, but it can't match the reception of the OEM one.

I also have it placed high in the windsheild with no tint in the way.

i wouldn't expect any antenna smaller than the OE whip style to perform better. i ordered it. i found a few similar to this including the dakota digital. most of their instructions and reviews mention a 2 inch distance between the unit and any metal. i will post again after its installed. thanks for the reply.

crap so far. velcro strip stuck to glass until an 85 degree day. reception is disappointing. i am going to try shortening the wire. there is some excess looped up and taped that i am going to cut out.

What I have always done and has worked really well is just buy a "wire" antenna. An antenna is made up of two parts and outer shield and then the center conductor which is the "antenna". Buy a wire antenna it usually has the shield for about 6 inches then the center conductor sticks out. Route this through the car away from any sheet metal for best results. These usually cost <$5. I have found "amplified" antenna's to always be disappointing.
