no, they aren't left-hand threads.. they are just that hard to get off, haha.
best way (least effort) i've found is to use a good impact gun with a well sized air compressor. if it doesn't come off after hitting it for about 20-30sec., soak the nut in penetrating oil and take a 15 min break. hit it again and it should come off.
so that is the easy way, if you have the equipment. if not.. a breaker bar and a good "cheater" bar. any long piece of pipe that will fit over the breaker bar handle. i use a pole from a chain-link fence, 1 1/4" OD and 5-6' long.
with the wheels on and torqued and the car on the ground, have your assistant hold the brake pedal to keep the car still. set the "cheater" so that you will be pushing down on it, not pulling up. lifting is more likely to cause injury. that should get it

So you're saying that pushing down is less likely to cause injury, since once the nut breaks loose, you get slammed to the ground, vs. just standing up when you're lifting?
well depends on the holder i guess. I know one time My friend was bouncing on the bar and it snapped and shot metal pieces everywhere. Chipped the cars paint. broke the breaker bar. 300lb guy lol
damn i hated that when i didnt have my mac impact (625 foot pounds) LOL
haha, no. we all know working on cars safely takes a bit of common sense. you've got to think ahead and be prepared for what's about to happen. you catch yourself.
