i drive a 90 civic std hatchback...its a great car i love it...i know its the base model for 1990 but should it top out or sound and feel like its toping out at 65-70? if i get on the interstate and get up to about 65-70 the check engine light comes on and it sounds like it is about to blow up....any idea's on how i can get this fixed or even if i can.

Pull back the upper part of the carpet on the passenger side footwell. You'll see the ECU. Turn the ignition to on, not start, and count the flashes in the window. Then post back with the results.

 

Put the car in second gear.

When was the last time you got your car tuned...a real tune up...I know that when timing is retarded, it'll have similar results...your catalytic, if you have one maybe clogged too...
