Default dohc zc swap help please ....

ok i just got a 91 civic with a dohc zc swap .. im trying to figure out a couple things about it ... like do i have the right ecu for it and what tranny i have ... here are the codes i got off each ..

dohc ZC - motor
L3-1447530 - tranny

37820-P59-A50
650-309431 ZC - ecu

also the speedometer and odometer arent working .. i checked the plug in the cluster its good and i made sure the other end was connected in the tranny but i still cant get it to work .. do i need a certain speedo-cable for this swap or will the stock one work?

also the ecu is flashing codes 17, 19, and 20 i was trying to figure out which codes that would be .. thanks

PS9 : 88-91 4 door Civic EX Auto

Try the PM6 ECU if you're running obd-0.

Code 17 Vehicle speed sensor (VSS)
Code 19 Lock-up Control Solenoid
Code 20 Electronic load detector (ELD)

so will my car run better if i got a 5-speed ecu and what ecu would be best for it?

as far as the codes is there anyway i can make them go off? cause my car has a speed-o-cable not a sensor .. and idk what to look for on those other 2 codes

a pm6 would run it fine, but a pg7 would be preferred.

you only have a code 19 because the ecu is not seeing an automatic transmission. once you get a 5 spd ecu that code will be gone.

now for the speed sensor code. although you don't have an electronic sensor in the transmission, there is one in the gauge cluster that converts the rotation of the cable into an electronic pulse. that pulse is then sent to the ecu. since the cluster is not reading your speed i would be led to believe that the cable is broken internally, or the guage cluster itself is fubared. take the cable out of the back of cluster and have someone spin it over from the engine bay. if its broken, replace it. if its not broken, replace the gauge cluster.

lastly, test out your electrical load detector. replace it if need be and it should take care of the code 20.

aight thanks i'll give all that a try this thurs when im off ... another thing is the way the tranny sits or mayeb just my shifter .. it hits the front of the cut out that it has to come thru on the floor ..... and it scrapes bad when in high rpms going into 3rd ... would i just need a new clutch/flywheel to stop the scrapping .. and why would my shifter hit the floor when going into 1st, 3rd, and 5th. does it need to be slide back or something

oh hey i forgot to mention the pm7 ecu, which would be most preferred. followed by the pg7, and then the pm6.

the shifter hitting the floor cutout is most likely because you have the wrong shift linkage or a tweaked shift linkage that is pulling the whole assembly too close to the firewall. did you have any problems with the engine mounts? the only other thing would be the engine is sitting too far forward in the engine bay.

the scraping/grinding noise you're hearing going into 3rd is from worn out synchros. you can try to curb this problem some by adding pennzoil synchromesh or honda's genuine mtf, but aside from that you'd have to replace or rebuild the transmission to fix the issue.

if you can't find the 88-91 PM7, which is the JDM factory ECU for the DOHC ZC, get the PG7 ECU from 88-89 Integra (not 86-87 Integra PG7 - they won't work) - the 88-89 PG7 is just about the same as the 88-91 PM7, but doesn't have the speed limiter like the PM7 - both PM7 and PG7 have fuel cut-off at 7500 rpm
