B18C sleeve boring/honing question
Im rebuilding a B18C1 to put in my 90 hatch, and when i initially tore the beast open it had two pistons who lost parts of there ring lands and scored up the cylinder walls. I called a (a being only 1 so far) machine shop to see if they could bore it out so i could get some new pistons in there , but they said that the sleeves were nickel and therefore i would have to order new sleeves. This was a machine shop that a buddy of mine uses so im not sure of there credibility etc. SO im wondering if it is true that i will have to buy new sleeves. Also im wanting to buy a set of 82mm pistons with floating pins, and i cannot remember if our rods use floating pins or not. Thanks for the answers in advance.
go to a different machine shop, they don't know what they're talking about. almost all honda engines have cast iron sleeves. the only honda engines i can think of that could not be overbored were the h-series found in preludes. the cylinder walls are made of a metal-matrix composite material that honda calls fiber-reinforced metal (FRM). its a combo of aluminum oxide and carbon fiber. due to the unique nature of the cylinder wall they can not be honed (very easily) or bored because it will lead to deglazing of the sleeve surface.
how about the stock wrist pins are they full floating, im at work now or i de just go to the garage and look. also what is the standard bore on the B18C
