Default Looking ofr a good short ram intake.

So i really think that the first thing i should do to my engine is grab up a short ram intake because i dont want a cold air. they look retarded and they can get damaged easy. Anyways, i have been looking for s good deal for a good short ram intake, so far, AEM has a good deal, i know they are a good company, but is K&N better. or what. Help me out plz. Let me know of your input. Thanks.

I have a off brand cheapo intake in my K swapped hatch just cause it fit well. I think with short rams it doesn't really matter who makes it. Remember that short rams get heat soaked in the summer cause it's so hot in the bay where the air comes from. You won't see as much of a performance gain with a short ram vs. cold air either. Most people think it helps more than it does cause the car sounds healthier. AEM, Injen etc.. all make really high quality stuff with CARB stickers etc. if you live in a strict emmissions area.

All right. Yeh i noticed that the K&N -63 series air charger is illegal in alot of states. right now i dont want a cold air intake because it would look retarded with my car. i havent done anything to the body yet so yeh. it wouldnt look right. also you said short rams have heat problems or they just get really hot fast. because i live in texas and its supposed to be a HOT summer.

It's not that it'll have problems, it's just the air will be hot and you won't really see any performance gains from it. Intakes don't really ever give you any performance though. They make the car sound more "mean" and look nice under the hood. I got an AEM because it was $100 and is a pretty good deal. I would do that or just grab an ebay one and throw a k and n cone filter on the end of it. Don't run an ebay filter. What motor do you have? If you're looking for real performance increases, I would look at more than an intake.

I didn't know there was such a thing as a "good" SRI, they all just suck in hot air from the engine bay. Honestly if I were you I would just leave your factory intake in place and put in a drop in K&N Air Filter and call it a day. The factory intake also looks better in the bay than a short ram IMO.

ok whoa whoa whoa, they have done tests about this in mags like import tuner and super street, and the diff in power between the 2 are 1-3 hp over the short ram from the cold air, it truly doesnt matter really, and you dont have to buy the whole intake, i took an old short ram tube and cut it down to a short length and put it in the factory intake duct and clamped the cone filter on the end and bam custom short ram and from the rubber oe duct it wont get as hot around the tubing besides how ever colder it is going through the intake duct its still gonna be super hot in the manifold and they only help at the very end of the power band, so you'll finally see the diff just as your about to shift

I found a good deal on a AEM short ram intake for $88 from original $103 at advance auto parts. I think i am just oging to buy it. but now yall bring up that putting a K&N air filter will do the trick? how so. and if so whats the difference. btw my engine specs: 1997 Honda Civic EX 1.6L 1590CC L4 FI VIN: D16Y8 - SOHC
