Default Gauge Cluster/ Wiring Harness Issues

So first off, bought another 97 hatchback and the gauge clusers instrument lights would not work. I bought new bulbs the day I got the car. Still no luck on lighting up my cluster. Over the weekend I picked up one that worked, I tested it the car I got it from. So I put it in my car only to find out it did not work. So yesterday I took the cluster back out and took the heat shrink off to find out if it was either a bad ground or cut wire. I did find that all the wires coming from the light dimmer had been spliced into a blue connector piece basically splicing them into many other wires most of them being red/black, red, and yellow. I also noticed that the wires themselves were spliced again near the cluster.

My question is are these wires suppose to be a stright shot from the dimmer to the cluster. I do know that the car had a Alpine car alarm installed and the previous owner had a problem with it so he took it out. Im guessing thats why it has the blue plastice splicer thingie. Any help is greatly appriciated or even a DYI for something similar. I really dont want to buy a 200 dollar instrument harness if I do not have to. Thanks in advance.
