Default "Indigo" Gauge Face Removal

2000 Coupe bought used. Removed an "Indigo" gauge face set up. It was wired into the #9 fuse on the driver side. + wire wound around the #9 fuse leg! (CLEVER HUH?)The gauge lights, all 5 of them, have the original bulbs but, while all the other dash lights light up and respond to the dimmer the gauge lights do not even illuminate. Back up lights (on the same fuse) work fine. No obvious wiring cuts on the cluster harness. Bulbs appear intact, plus all failing as a result of the indigo set up seems like a pretty big chance.

Idea's?

Replace bulbs to see if they're just bad?

Test back of cluster with multimeter for voltage?

Back of cluster is getting juice because all the other stuff works. I kind of discounted the possibility of 5 bulbs going out at once but maybe I'm down to that. I guess stranger things have happened...

The idea is to avoid hunting for the problem. I may end up with that but I'm guessing there was something done during the install that can easily reversed. Just need someone who has installed them to tell me what it was.

Yeah, I hate problems like that whenever you get a car modded by someone else.

Well you have half of something working and the other half not working.

Since you're in there replacing the bulbs may just be a "best practice" thing, but seeing if you even have voltage at those points seems like a no-brainer for a first test. If you don't have voltage you know it's probably not an issue at the cluster and there is a missing ground or something. You could then test the cluster to a common chassis ground and see if you're getting power but not a good ground.
