Default Canadian built Accord

I just bought a 1992 Accord EX-r from a private party here in Las Vegas. And of course the battery had been disconnected for whatever reason and needs the code..however the problem is this first of all...The car was originally purchased in Canada, and when I try to register it on the Honda site(to retrieve radio codes) it says my VIN is invalid. NOW what? Why would it say invalid when I have had the paperwork looked over at the Dept of Motor Veh. and it IS valid. It has already been registered here in Nevada, by the previous owner(I'm the 2nd owner) for quite some time. I just want the radio code, and keep hitting a dead end. I thought a VIN is a VIN, is a VIN, ...right? Plates don't follow the car, the VIN DOES. HELP ME.
