I may be wrong and feel free to correct me, but I am going to say they look different because 1) crash and saftey standards and 2) South Africa might have got more/ different modles then the ones for instants in the U.S.
Honda Motor Company is spread out across the world and, to a point, are run independantly from Honda in Japan. They also make many of there own designs and combinations of exsisting designs.
A good example of this is the Civic you guys get in SA that comes equiped with a B18B.
Different people making different decisions.

There's a saying here in the US that applies to this topic:
"The grass is always greener on the other side."
Meaning we desire cars found overseas, and some overseas people desire cars we have here. The cars desired might not even be "better" but because they are simply different people desire them. For example people here in The US pay a ton for those EK bumpers with the wrap-around trims. We never got those here. I assume it'd be cool in S.A to drive around with our USDM smooth EK bumpers.
We do not even get the FN CTR here. We never got an EK hatchback with a B series or moonroof (sunroof) or power windows or locks either. Sounds like you guys in S.A never got the EM1 99-00 Civic Si coupe either.
Did you guys ever get the 92-95 Civic hatchback? What about the EE 88-91 Civic Wagon? These are mine:

I'd love to see some World Cup games. I'll be cheering for the Bafana Bafana with Steven Pienaar leading the way. Of course I'll be cheering for our Yanks too...

There's several countries that never got hatches and even more countries that never got coupes. The sedans were, by far, the more wide-spread model. By that I mean more countries had sedans than any other body style.
Several European countries are like this, as is the Philippines IIRC and South Africa IIRC. I'd have to check my list again to be sure.
The problem with having a coupe in one of these countries is some parts could be very difficult to come by. The good thing is that many parts from sedans or hatches can be used on the coupes still. It'd suck to need new taillights, for example.

Its funny how you say you love our civics but you have a "love jdm" stcker. Lol
Was your homie with the b20vtec and angel eyes running against a corrado? He lost?
The leather seats on ek's look like eg seats. Well anything is better than USDM ek seats.....they're sooooo uncomfortable/ no support.
Anyways, nice whip keep us updated with the b16a2 you will be getting
