From a Newer DD to an ITR: Who Has Done It? Am I Crazy?

I spent 2001-2007 in a DC2 GSR and loved every single minute of it.
I may have modified the car a little much (low, not so quiet, and bumpy), and I think that is why in 2007 I moved on to a MKV GTI. While I have enjoyed the GTI, I still find myself lusting after an ITR!
Am I crazy for thinking this way? I'm not in a financial position to have more than one car, so whatever I own has to be my daily driver.
Please share any similar stories about those of you that have moved on to something "softer" and "more civilized," only to come crawling back to the DC2 chassis and the ITR.
Even 2001 ITR's are nearly 10 years old at this point, which is another thing holding me back from making this jump.

The newest car ive owned is a 98 integra gs... which was my project/dd for 3 years... i sold it and my crx beater winter car when i moved to cali and bought my 97 ITR. Ive owner heR for 7 months and have DD'ed her everyday. I love DDing my itr but it puts a lot of wear and tear... so soon i will be getting another beater. (the desert can really tear up a cars paint, interior, and weather stripping! I say go for it! youre in indiana!
You're not crazy, the '97 ITR which is now 13 years old is proving to be a better overall vehicle then some newer cars, and is also out-performing them. Newer does not always mean better. Although, I do recommend having a second vehicle when owning an ITR. From experience, owning just an ITR can be a pain in the *** when it comes time to perform maintenance tasks, and you can't let your car sit in the shop for a day or two because you need it to drive to work.

And also avoid the obvious; malls, movies, or any other situation where you leave your car around teeny boppers and such. These activities are for the wife's car

I went from a 02 is300 to a 97 gsr and i kicked my self for a bit but then i feel back in love with dc and i havent had a car in over 3 years only a street bike and live in NY LOL.. Looking for a type-r now for a project/weekend car.
Do it! My last two cars before buying a stock '01 ITR were a '07 STi and a '06 Si. I got rid of the STi because I needed lower monthly payments, and I got rid of the Si because I had wanted an ITR since high school and finally came across a deal I couldn't refuse. I live in northern VA and have to DD mine. Unless you buy an ITR that is in absolute showroom condition with ridiculously low miles, don't treat it like a museum piece. Buy it and drive it every day!
I've have daily driven my 97R for the last 7 years. 3 in IL and 4 in KY. I don't regret it. Make sure you buy a QUALITY ALARM (can't stress this enough) before you decide to mod your car. This will put your mind a little more at ease, because if you don't have one you will go CRAZY.
As long as you can safely DD without security concerns then it's no issue.
here's my personal timeline, this car will always be my personal favorite.
ITR>RSX-S>E46 M3>ITR (x2)

^ This.
Been there, done that, would never do it again.
Unless you live in the middle of nowhere, you're life will be plagued with paranoia. As well it should. That is the only thing about owning an R that I don't miss. Even with the car parked in a dead-bolted garage, with a clutch lock, steering wheel lock, pager alarm, and GPS tracking, I still slept every night with the pager on my night side table just in case. No movies, no shopping, no overnight stays at random girl's houses after the bar, totally impractical. And IMO, if you weren't like this, you had no idea what you were driving. In this sense, just a Honda? Not exactly. Last I checked, Odyssey owners weren't this **** ... =P
Grab a DD, and put the R in a safe place and enjoy her on the weekends. If you can't, it's just a matter of time and luck.

Well said. However, for someone like myself, i dont have to worry about it at night due to where i live. I was talking about the caR's reliability, comfort, and fun factor that make it a good DD. But youre right, its not a good DD if you live in a high theft area!
i've been wanting to take this jump for a long time but i just can't do it. i live in chicago...and theft is ghey out here.
Even though i do have a DD....i just wouldn't be able to NOT drive such a perfectly built car.
besides....no one wants to trade me their CW for my car.

Thanks for the feedback everyone.
I wouldn't really consider theft something that I'd be concerned about.
I'm just more feeling potentially crazy for thinking about jumping from a very comfortable daily driver car like my 07 GTI to something with potentially lots of miles and is considerably louder.
I realize it's very much a personal decision, I just had a feeling lots of people out there have been confronted with a mental battle like this before.
Thanks.

well I haven't been without a DC2 since March 2000, but, I have sold much newer cars to buy my 97 ITR. I daily drive it half the time (maybe more right now since the GS-R has a ripped subframe).
The only concern I'd have in theft, but it's a car, so..
Just get a black or yellow one, those don't matter as much when they get jacked.
Oh, and my ITR is the luxury car compared to the GS-R.. but my old DD (grand marquis) is still sitting in my driveway, and even when it was modified some (still is actually) it was far quieter than the ITR even (let alone the GS-R). I don't miss it when driving the ITR. I do miss it when driving the GS-R just because that car is so annoying with the rattles, road noise, etc.
Thank god I never put a loud exhaust on them.

It's only semi-retired as a DD now because he drives his 30,000 mile 90 miata more now. The ITR needs maintenance and he hasn't had time to deal with it so it's been sitting for 4 months or so now.
I personally have no fear DDing my ITR as well. I put an alarm on it, as much for protection as for keyless entry.

Couldn't of said it better myself.

Once you've owned a Type R and no longer have it sitting in your garage ready to terrorize the steets you WILL regret selling it. there's nothing else like it! not an AMG not a Competition M3 not a limited edition Range Rover and trust me i've used all to their limits. The Type R is a true drivers car, with that said you need to treat ownership as a limited edition collectors car, not a tsx.
LOVE this caR though, if you truly know and appreciate Type R's then they're a steal at <$15k!
