Default D16Z6 Idle Surge at Start

Hey guys. I've just recently starting a surge start when I start the car up. The car will crank, go up to 2,000 RPM and the start surging from 800 to 2,000. Then about 30 secs to 1 min later, something will pop (which sounds like a fuse blowing from the engine fuse box) and the it will idle normal. Now I just recently put in a new engine harness b/c my 02 sensor wires where shot and a new distributor. It just started doing this today. Any ideas of what could be causing it?

More than likely, you have a bad fast idle control valve

I don't see how it can be bad. I just put on the new stuff today.

Try cleaning both the FITV and IACV. The FITV can also be adjusted.

Did you adjust your timing after installing the new distributor?

rough idle when the motor is cold signals a bad FITV (fast idle thermo-valve) and its located on the throttle body at the bottom. it comes off with 2 8mm bolts (they might be 10s) and there is a white ball with a black ring around it. the ring can be tightened back down with a flat-head screwdriver, and then brake clean the white ball. you can also try adjusting the screw on the outside of the TB that helps also.

heres a pretty good write-up that i used from team-integra

Yeah, i fixed the timing, but now it's doing something weird. Now when I crank the car is like kind of sputters and the revs up to 2400 RPM and stays there. Then about a min later it starts to surge again (now from 1200 to 2400). I just shut her off b/c I got scared.

Do these cars use a throttle positioning sensor?
When is the last time you did a tune up?

Ok, so now I've cleaned and put back on the FITV and the IACV and still doing the same thing. But when it seems like it warms up or whatever, it kicks something on or off and idles fine at 850 RPM. It's still doing the same stuff at the start though.

And yes, there is a CEL present, but it's because of the 02 sensor which I'm having replaced today along with a new header.

Got the new header & 02 sensor on today. Sounds good again, but still having the CEL on and it's still doing the stutter and high revs on start and still doing the surge. Going to look for a new IACV. If anyone knows where I can get one for a decent price (like $125 or less), please let me know.

Also, my car smells like its burning rubber under the hood, I think it maybe just because of the new gaskets.

I had the same problem when I had my civic. You need to replace your tps and it should go away
