Default ef swap, so original

i have an 88 ef hatch i want to swap in the upcoming summer. it has the stock d15b2, and im not looking for crazy power, but a little more. i would do work to this engine but i have no idea how many miles are on the motor because a different cluster was put in the car before i bought it. i was wondering what motor, preferably d series, would be the best and what else i would have to do to swap it.

and the only reason im preferring a d series is because i already have a limited slip d series trans in the car, but i would love to hear alternatives

do either a d16a6 (if you can find a low milage one) or a dohc zc, its from the si in japan and is a drop in just like the a6. just change the ecu with either engine

nope. you can't bar a DOHC ZC.if you want the best/cheap swap just get a SOHC ZC its perfectly legal and it has the same power as the z6 and you can stay obd0

d16z6 swap ftw! I just put one into my hatch and I am very pleased. It was cheap and a pretty easy swap.

did you read the original post? it basically is the exact opposite of what he wants as a project and an end result. he likes his tranny and he wants a d series........

88ef, simple is good. if you dropped in an a6, it would smoke youre b2 and be fun as hell with the limited slip. they are readily available, dirt cheap, should get close to the same gas mileage as a b2, and if you want to play later for a little more power yet, you can easily play with the a6 head (cam, milling, etc). youd be back in action in no time. vtec is overrated anyway.

only people who say that is people who don't have it, lol.

in my crx going from an a6 swap to an a6 block with a y8 head, I dropped .700 of a second in the 8th mile. went from running a 10.2 to a 9.5.

also going from an ls swap to a GSR swap.........Holy cow, vtec made a HUGE difference.

What does that come out to in the 1/4?
and what tranny did you have?

I sold my y8 last week, then the guys calls me saying that it was a y8 block with an a6 head.... damn, To assume it to make an *** out of U and ME.

I also agree on swapping in a D16Z6/D16Y8. Both can be obtained for fairly cheap and parts are everywhere. Great aftermarket support, and cheap to swap in.
