cross threaded spark plugs?
ok well i finally got another honda after 3 years with my drift project.i started to get into the engine the other day and noticed the plugs were really hard to break lose and one started backing out and stopped.if the number 4 one is actually crossed how can i get it out with out damage to the head or should i just bu another head? the cars a 94 accord ex with an f22b2 in it non vtec! thanks for the help
you have to pull the head. autozone sells repair kits for this. probably cost like 60 bucks for all 4 if you need them. and you have to but the tool for it. thats part of that 60 bucks. you also need a good rtv for the kit. install it and let the head sit over night (24-hours) before you put new plugs in and start it. if you are not sure you can run the tap tool perfectly straight, pay a machine shop to do it. but you wont need to supply them with the parts. the shop i go to charges like 30 bucks per plug that needs repair work on the threads

new head is cheaper. but if it were me you would never catch me puting a junk yard head on without doing a valve job only to find out i needed a valve job or resurfacing. so its gonna be a bit more using the junk yard one but it will have good plug threads. i would spend the money in your shoes. in my shoes however i go to the ware house and get what i need and tell the guys i took it. i sell em for 75 to 150 bucks for a core needing a valve job. no cams or any of that. off hand i think its 80 bucks for the F22B2 head. it is recommended to have a valve job and valve guides replaced. send me your head and i can do all that and swap the cam and parts for you. and you can have your head back for a recycling return. its aluminum so its probably worth 10-15 bucks (maybe more). and you get a warranty (1-year). its about $380.00 total and a bit more than a junk yard but its as good as a used head will ever get and still good to run. plus it has a warranty. also you might get a head from the junk yard that is beyond the service limit should it need resurfacing. be cautious when buying any head from the junk yard.
