Default universal oil drain plug problem. total newbie needs help

This is the oil drain Plug that was put on my car [link]
-got a 93 civic for my daily driver and was changing the oil when i first saw this i assumed it was the oem drain plug for the civic (my fault for assuming)
-so i drained the oil and was tightening the plug. and it just fell out (stupid me i should have been more careful)
-appearantly the small side of the plug got stuck inside the oil pan.

-got this car from my dad and he always sent it to jiffy lube, i think they stripped the bolt or something when they decided to replace this.

-im going to vegas this weekend and was wondering if there was anything i can do to get it out.
-i read that it was just a 17mm bolt that i can get, but i was wondering if it would be fine if i could drive around with that end piece in my oil pan.

thanks for helping out a newbie :/

I would go get an oil pan from the junk yard, clean it up, and put it on. That's me, though.
Anything sitting in the bottom of your oil pan is BAD.

From looking at the pic in the link you should be able to use a magnetic pick-up tool to get the part out of your oil pan.

Then you can get an oversized oil pan bolt that cuts its own thread,Napa was where I got my last one.
Good luck

thanks for the help. got a mag pickup tool and got it out.
but i got a oil drain plug from napa but the oem one not the oversized one, got the replacement one that napa offered for my car.
came with the bolt and the plastic gasket. put the bolt on with the gasket and is leaking a little bit.
so should i bolt it on the pan with the plastic or no?

It should not be leaking anything, put a oversized bolt in. A 5 yr old could do a better job at reccomending things then they guys at napa, at least the one by my house. They are idiots and couldnt tell a honda from a damn pinto.

I guess try it will the plastic but i would be conserned about it leaking, although it may be small, its still a leak.

If you keep that bolt on, you can say bye bye VTEC... and later your engine.

Honda uses small soft aluminum gaskets for the oil drain plug. You can get them from the dealership for less than a buck. Do it.

While you're at it pick up oil filters. The best damned filters you can get for a Honda come from Honda.
