Default Finally test drove a s2k. Looking at a local '00 with 26k miles... Caveats?

So, I've had a Si, MS3, and 350z lately (sold the 350z to get the wife a genesis coupe, and took her crappy lemon jetta), and have been hankering for something fun again these days.

Been looking at a s2k forever, was worried the distinct lack of power would kill me. Probably wont, seems like itll be fun for at least a few years. Drove one, seemed pretty fun

I looked at a '02 at the dealer with like 76k they wouldn't take 11.5 without a non-refundable deposit seemed like they wanted to lock me in before my mechanic took a look at it. (Car had a really ricey exhaust and some stickers on it, spider sense was tingling :p)

Going to look at a '00 Black S2000 tomorrow hopefully with 26k on the clock. I hear that I should pay decent attention to the rear diff.. anything else I should watch out for? Will probably spring for a mechanical inspection/compression test before I buy.

Guy is asking like 12k (looks like it has been well maintained, he has records as well). KBB is like 9600..I figure if its in realy good shape I could offer 10.5 or something. Thoughts?

Thanks :D

Cant wait to have a fun car again!

even with the low miles, 12k is very steep for any 00 or 01 MY in my opinion. you can probobly find a sub 50k mileage 02+ for around that pricetag as well, and tht way you get a glass window, a clock, and a leather center console.

the guy is obviously asking a premium due to low mileage, but i still dont think its a fair deal for a 00

i hold mileage very high... 12k for those miles is cheap. Its virtually a new car..

I paid 14.5 for my 00 last year. It had 28k but was flawless. Also had the full factory aero.

Saw the car today. Was pretty much flawless. Better paint than my 08 vw :p

Guy had service records for dealer oil changes with mobil 1 for the entire ownership of the car, got it inspected by a shop, everything looked good , car drove fine. Shifted fine, might have had some of the buzzing on decel, but that didnt seem unusual. My 350z had a 5x noisier drivetrain with 10k on the odo.

Looks good. Pick it up tomorrow or friday

Man... This car has appreciated almost 3000$ since I bought it. Torn between if I should try to sell it or not. KBB is $13,560 right now. Ive got 30,800 on it, part of me says if I sold it today itd be like getting paid to lease it for a year. Agh! Thing runs great but man am still jonesing for a C6.

Put it for sale and see what happens. It's hit or miss with a car at that price and that age. Banks probably won't want to finance 100% but then again it's tax season. I'm sure there's someone out there who received a 7k tax return due to school and or kids. Put it on the market... I'm going to do the same but I bought my low mileage 01 for half the price you paid...
