93 CIVIC 1.6 SOHC Rev Limiting at 3500 RPM and misfiring-HELP!!!
First of all I wanna start by saying thanks for having me on your forum! My brother and I have both recently got into the scene. He purchased a 94 Acura Integra RS and I picked up a 93 Civic EX.
Heres the issue I am having. The car has the 1.6 liter SOHC engine. When I start it up it starts fine. It idles fine etc. However, while in park, if you rev the engine it acts like it is rev limiting at 3500 rpm. It just bounces off the 3500 mark just like it would if you were redlining. While in drive (under load) it misfires periodically and once you reach 3500 rpm, either in passing gear or at a high enough speed, it rev limits again. Ive tried all these things.
-Replaced the distributor
-replaced O2 sensor
-It isn't the catalyic converter because it has been replaced with a test pipe
-tune up
None of these things work. It has a CEL light on with a code 44 which is a rear fuel system malfunction. What does this mean? Im assuming a fuel pump. I tried testing the fuel pressure but failed to found the spot to test it at. It seems to have plenty of fuel pressure but I can't be sure of this until I test the fuel pressure. Is it possible that it could be the FPR?
Anyone that has had this same problem and has some feedback would be much appreciated! PLEASE HELP!!!

I dont think it is the timing. The belt was changed under 30000 miles ago. Also, it doesnt have an issue idling. It idles and revs up fine in park, until you reach 3500 rpm that is.
What was it that was the wiring issue for you? I have narrowed my issue down to a fuel problem as far as I can tell. It cant be anything to do with the ignition as I have already diagnosed or replaced all the components of said system. However, there could still be an issue with the ECU could there not?
More feedback please! Im still stuck!

Well unfortunately that did nothing for me. Lol. I am looking at something thats a little more involved then a jiggle of the wires lol. I dont have your luck!

Checked fuel pressure and found that it was exactly what it should be. Ran up to 45 pounds and held pressure. Still lost. This brings me to the assumption that it is either the ECU, injector(s), or a sort of wiring issue as b20hatchek has eluded to. However, I dont know where to start with the wiring issue. Maybe you can give me some more advice b20???? Thanks
that hapend to me on time i was cleaning come oil and dirt of my engine and i moved my injector wire a lil witch it was just siting on it and it only reved to 3500 rpm so i went back on everything i did to my car and found out i just needed to push down on the injector wire
Sounds like fuel cut if it won't rev past 3500. Try clearing the code (remove the back-up fuse for 10 seconds) and see if it will rev past 3500. If so, then it's doing that because it's in limp (engine protection) mode. Technically, code 44 doesn't exist in Honda's service manual. Are you sure it isn't code 43 or 4 being repeated as the only code? Double check the code before you clear it and make sure you're counting the flashes right. Long flashes are the "tens" place, and quick flashes are the "ones" place. Code 4 is a fault in the crank position (CKP) sensor circuit. That sensor is in the distributor. You may have fixed the problem by replacing the distributor, but since the code is still stored then the ECU will stay in limp mode. However it may also be a wiring fault.
So to sum up:
-double check the code, long & short flashes
-clear the code
-see if the problem still exists, if so let us know & on we go with diag

ok then on that note pull the fuel rail out with injectors and disconnect the dis and crank the motor over a couple times to see if all the injectors are sparying, if so then your getting fuel and it could be a ignition prob so swap dizzys
im havein a problem with my ecu?? idk? if its it but i need help...how kan u tell if its for a auto or standard...kuz on my 93 honda civic?? it stop at 3500rpms like if its automatic and dats on nuetral and my uncle sayz it shouldnt even stop at dat specialy since its stanard???...

I'm wandering if you have an ecu tuned with a drag launch, mine won't rev past 3600 unless the speedometer is reading something. Which sux if the VSS goes out cause i have to shift at 3600 lol.
