I just bought a b18b1 146k miles rebuilt 20k ago. When you first start it it will make a knock slound but only one knock, then you drive it and it runs perfect and strong, shut it off and start it back up and it makes no noise. It only makes a knock when you strat from a cold start. I hear it's from just the oil basically getting pushed to the head. Everything is stock. Anyone know if it's just the oil or something else?

 

Thats a common thing in all cars. It takes a few seconds for oil to run through the motor as all the oil drains down to the oil pump as the motor cools down.

 

ok thanks alot. I was kinda worried because my gsr didn't do that and i havent heard an engine do that before. Time to put it in my hatch tonight

 

Its normal. If your worried then do a valve adjustment and change your oil.

 

yeah. Well i just bought the engine and i drove the car before he pulled the engine and i heard it but thats what i thought was just the oil since it was only one knock and didn't do it again when it was warm. I just put the enine in my hatch last night so i just have to change ecu, hook all wire up, shift linkage and axles and it will be ready to roll. I am going to change all fluids and notice and i took the old exhaust manny off that a need new valve seals eventually, but not a major issue.
