D15B Swap ( Jdm Engine)
Sooo im completely new to this engine swapping buisness.. but i have no choice but to swap.. anyways,
I bought a d15b engine from a jdm shop in toronto, and im ready to have it put in any time now.. i jsut would like to know if there are any extra parts i have to buy.. and if the ecu will read this engine, if any of you ever had this engine in your car or swapped please help meee
My car is 96 civic dx, SOHC non vtech d16y7
from what the guy told me.. the engine is d15b non vtec and all i would have to change is 1 plug and one other thing but i forgot..
i dont know what kind of computer the d15b uses and i hope it will be the same, but i really would like some help on this.. thanks

d15b is a vtec motor unless there are numbers after it. You can use your ecu just going to have to chip it and run vtec wires if it's vtec and all your sensors more than likely need changed due to different emission rules and regulations just do some basic research swaps are fairly common not so much d series as b series but still the same...

no theirs no numbers.. it just says D15B and has a serial code under it. i didnt see the v tech cylinoid, nor does it say vtech anywhere.. does that mean i would have to take off the valve cover to see if it is vtec?
It depends on what D15B you got as far as what you will need and such. Some D15Bs are vtec, some aren't, some are dual carbed. Your best bet is to post pictures of it.
how to check vtec or not on sohc's
and the sensors you would have to change your o2 sensor and emission crap unless you can get a lick and stick for your inspections
vtec ones will have a solenoid bolted to the head at the back left corner of the motor (looking at the front "exhaust side" of the motor) and more than likely the spark plugs will go into the front of the head instead of the rear

All OBD2 D-series engines have the spark plugs on the front, vtec or non vtec. If the plugs are on the back its definately non-vtec, but if the plugs are on the front it doesn't really tell you anything.
plugs are at the front.. and there are no soloinoids on the side either. however the intake looks exactly as a d16y7 does.. comes with the square filter thing ontop of the engine.
