Harness compatibility
Hey guys, got a 99 b16 sir2 motor in my 2000 hatch right now. Im swapping in a 2000 GSR motor. I have the engine harness, but we're missing the ECU harness going from the ECU to the engine harness. I know the 2000 GSR is obd2b, but I'm not sure if the 99 b16sir2 is obd2a or obd2b. Does anyone know if it'll plug up or would I need to go looking for the ECU harness for the GSR? Thanks.

Be clear.
you can use any Integra DC4 1996-2001 GSR harness. your ECU must match your harness type whether it be obd2a or obd2b. BE AwARE that 2000 and 2001 GSR ecus have immobilizers.
You can also use any 1992 harness or 93-95 ex/si harnesses for the ecu and use an odb1 GSR ecu. since the harness is a 2 piece design, it will still be compatible with the engine harness already installed.

Hey guys, the ECU I have is a 2000 GSR OBD2b. I'm trying to BAR the engine in my 2000 hatch. The car is at the shop right now and we're done for the day, I was tired, so I'll be back at it on monday. I already got the immobilizer removed from the ECU and installed a dummy chip in it's place. It was tested in another car and it works fine. Only issue left is trying to find the ECU harness. I never knew about the 1 piece and 2 piece design. So you guys are saying I have to find a 2000-2001 GSR ecu harness, nothing else?

yes, all you need is a 2000-01 ECU harness from a GSR integra or the Civic SI harness 99-2000(although it is still a one piece design). SI harness and sohc harnesses are a 1 piece design (cars that come stock with the D16y8 or B16 96-2000). the LS integra ecu harness (96-2001) will not be wired for vtec even though the harness will plug and play.

^^ have any proff? I am not the only one that says you cant use integra harness in 96-00.
Not peice of information i cant find supports what you said, 96-00 civics use 1 peice harness.

wait, so now ppl are saying a obd2b 99-00 SI harness will work with the 2000 GSR? I'm massively confused. If the 99-00 si harness will work, thats good too because at least I found one on ebay, but so far no luck finding a 2000-2001 harness though. I appreciate all the help, but whats the conclusive answer, does anyone know?
Don't listen to xero xero. Use the Civic harness you have now, you don't need any other harness. Just add the extra wire(s) that you'll need.
xero xero - What you're talking about only works with '92-'95 Civic and Integras. If he tried to do what you're suggesting, he'd also have to replace the entire under dash harness as well. The harness he has now ('99 or '00 Civic harness) will allow the new '00 P72 ECU to plug right in.

^ just stop now, your making your self look stupid.
op keep the harness you have and plug it right in.
The car is obd2b, not a. I dont know how much clearer i can make it.
The civic harness will work just fine and he CAN plug in the integra ecu to it.

Dur sped, the SI harness he has now is for a b16 which in turn is the same as the GSR. no adding or lengthening wires
there are guys on here telling him to add "extra wires for what he will need"
and then you (98civdx) tell him he could use a dx harness. your just setting him up for a head ache (a good bit of legntening wires and differences between d and b series).
you can use your current wire harness, but for ease of maintenance and installation I TOLD YOU MY BEST ADVICE for the easiest way for YOU. the 2 piece design allows you to install and remove the engine with ease.

Hey guys, the motor I currently have is a 1999 JDM b16 sir2, I'm not sure if that is obd2a or obd2b, since the USDM b16a2 is OBD2b. I have to wait until monday to make sure. The motor came with the car and I haven;t had a chance to check to see what ECU he is running and what type of harness he ended up using. I really do appreciate all the help though, I'll get back to you guys and let you know whats up, I'm sure I'm going to run into some road blocks haha.
first off, to use the secondary iabs he will need to add wires dip ****!
I was making a point, HE COULD if he felt the need, sure it will suck, adding lengthing what ever. I will all work!, b series or d!

FYI to zero zero, I can't use any other ECU or any other combo. This is going up to CA state bar. ECU has to be the p72 obd2b 2000 GSR ECU, the one corresponding to the motor. No other ecu can be used and a jumper harness DEFINITELY CANNOT be used to covert back to obd2a if that is what you are suggesting, it won't pass state bar that way.
i think your best bet would be to find a 2000~2001 gsr engine harness and splice/swap over whatever connectors you need from the integra harness to civic harness (2ndary buterrflies, vtec, oil pressure, couple other ones i forgot). at least thats what i did for my 98 gsr swap on 98 hatch for BAR. since you bought the car with a swap, im assuming you dont know what/how the previous owner modded the civic harness to fit the jdm b16a. personally i would buy a unmodded 2000 civic dx/lx/ex harness along with the unmodded gsr harness and combining them together for a safer bet. doing it this way insures that you wont have headaches later on when your car suddenly doesnt want to start because of a bad connection/burnt wire/unpinned connector/etc.
heres a recommendation on where to get the harnesses besides egay:
1. go to maps.google.com
2. search for honda parts sacramento, ca (home of the largest wrecking yards in the states)
3. list of wrecking yards going to pop up, i would first try calling HAP (honda recycling), then some smaller yards and see if they are willing to ship.
i usually get all my parts from the wrecking yards in sacramento.
if you're going to the bar station could u help me ask one of the refs what's up with the new "no jdm motor swap" law. there are couple of dilemmas i heard.
1. being that only integras could swap over the jdm b18c (typeR) since it was originally equipped with a b18c5
2. or could previously bar'd members with b18c1/b18b can replace their engines with a jdm b18c
basically i want to know if i bar'd a gsr can i swap over a jdm b18c as a replacement. you probably would want to know too

after a little more digging through your posts and since no one gave you any tips for bar day:
1. no aftermarket anything....intake, header, cat, and intake manifold were replaced after i got my bar sticker on passenger side door. i rather not fail, schedule another appointment, wait, and come back because of a stupid intake.
in your case to answer the cat question, this is what i did. i welded two different pipes in between the header to exhuast. one pipe is really short so i can bolt on a cat to pass smog when i need to and one pipe is pretty long and straight for whenever my car does not need a smog. i needa find a headshield to weld to that pipe so i looks like i have a cat.
2. i think the monitor crap on couple other bar posts are referring to the monitors on the ecu that brings up the CEL. i think there are 2 monitors one at 30miles and another at 60 miles. so that means the CEL wont come on even though it detects a problem until after 30miles and 60miles. so make sure u drive the car at least 30~60miles before going to the bar station.
3. no CELs
4. arrive early, most of these bar stations are at some school in my case, some ****ed up adult school. i spent 15 minutes trying to find which part of the school was for the bar station. after finding out where it was, i had to go back outside and repark my car into a designated parking spot for cars being bar'd.
5. i remember thinking about paper work. i did not bring any because the motor's vin number referred to a gsr that my cousin owned. so i know in the dmv database it did not have the words stolen on it. iono where u got your motor but i would bring some kind of paperwork/bill of sale stating that motor is yours. cause worst case scenario they could call the cops and your car would be impounded for being stolen property.
6. it was a pretty easy thing to do. there wasnt anything much for them to check. one of the guys showed me a packet of about 10+ pages of printouts that had diagrams of varies things they checked. mainly it was items that involved the emissions (evap, charcoal canister, purge solenoid, ecu vin number, etc).
i think thats about it. im sure u kno its only a visual inspection, no more sniffer test. remember to help me ask about jdm motor swaps. and good luck hope to see you at some norcal track events.

MAN KENSEI!! You are the man! THanks for all the help man! I'll repost and let you know about the situation. Since I haven't had a chance to go back to my buddies shop yet and I'm still waiting for the ECU at hand, I can't really say until we actually drop the GSR in. I just removed the b16a SIR2 today. We'll see how everything goes and we can take it from there, and of course I'll help you out, it'll probably take less than a few minutes to ask anyway. Thanks again man! Hopefully you'l be back to help some more after I figure out if something is really wrong or the harness already in my car is OBD2b or the previous owner modified it.
