Default Indexing Spark Plugs

In general for high power B series motors (FI especially), what is the best gap angle to use, say from the back of the combustion chamber (rearmost)?

Does cam profile have much of an effect on this?

I always theorized that the best was to have the gap opening facing the fuel injectors and air intake. This shoudl allow for the most combustion. This is a pain in the *** with washers but you can sometimes use different plugs and get them somewhat indexed.
