Icon2 Anyone ever heard of bending ALL 8 exhaust valves and not noticing it?

Sent my Gsr head to a machine shop to be decked. Now they say it needs a valve job which i can believe because the car has 120,xxx miles on it. But ALL 8 exhaust valves are bent just doesnt sound right. The car put 380 whp on 11psi 5 min before they pulled the head off. Is it possible?!?!?!?!?

people oftentimes will mildly bend a valve (or valves) without noticing because the engine will still run fine...the problem comes into play when the weakened valve eventually breaks off. a bent valve can be really hard to detect sometimes without pulling them and inspecting them. they can even hide from compression/leakdown tests sometimes.

so i can believe it.

they are bent or not sealing correctly?

chances are they are not sealing. 120k miles is allot and boost is hard on exhaust valves. im sure they are just not sealing anymore.

the only way they would all bend is if the belt broke or something of that nature...OR..they used a hammer+socket to remove the retainers.

BTW, what are the symptoms of bent valves?

I have an all motor car, and I feel like, it is a little bit weaker than before some miss shifts on the trackday.

But the car starts and idles fine.

gonna do a leakdown test to see what happens..

dont know. my car was not showing anything unusual. 380whp on 11lbs seemed pretty good to me. that was the pull the car made less than 1 hour before it was pulled apart to put in head studs and new head gasket
