Help me fix this A/C problem for my dad Please
Well I'm currently fixing the little defects on my dads hatch since he lend me the car while i worked on mine. Apparently his A/C works but ill try to explain whats the problem from what he has told me.
The symptom is that when one turns on the A/C it stays on. Sometimes it doesnt even come on. But sometimes it does and according to my dad the A/C systems have a control as to them turning on for a moment then , they turn off and so on and so on. The problem is when it does work , when it does the cut off procedure it sometimes doesnt come back on. Im sorry if this makes no sense but im going by what he told me. So what im trying to find out is what controls this on/off sequence on the A/C. So i can try to tamper or replace it if i can.
TIA

as for what controls the cycling on and off of the system when it's operating normally- there is a thermistor "sensor" in the evaporator under the dash. when the temp of the evaporator gets near freezing (i think around 35-36°F) the system cuts off until the temp rises again. this keeps the evaporator from clogging with frost.
one of the first things i normally do to check A/C is to test it with a thermometer in the center vent. drive the car on a warm day after it's been sitting in the sun to get hot inside. with windows closed, fan on high and recirc. on cut the A/C on. as you drive (try to maintain 45-60 and take a route without many stops) the temp should steadily drop to about 43-40°F then cycle off. depending on the starting temp in the car it should take no more than a few minutes.
if it does anything other than that, make note of it and go from there.

Buddy, you should really take it to a pro. No offense but you obviously don't have the 1st clue or the knowledge and you definitely don't have the necessary equipment to service the system. You might just crack a line open and let all the freon escape into the atmosphere.

In his defense, bad **** happens when you messed with fluids (liquid or gas) under high pressure. Like the time my friend took his radiator cap
off in a gas station after his car overheated and the 3-400*F antifreeze landed on my back.
