You should be able to get it off with a vise grip positioned correctly.

Otherwise:Craftsman Bolt&Nut remover

i used a dremel when it happened to me, be prepared to replace the stud as well when you remove it, it may not be needed but would reccommend it

Next time u should use a turbo socket, it has a sharp thread on the inside of the socket to grab a stripped nut or bolt, I don't know who exactly carrys them. I got mine from snap-on, and im pretty sure cornwell carrys them. Saves a lot of time and aggrivation, and in your case, a stud

I think the problem the OP is having is that you can turn the nut it just doesn't come off not that the socket can't grab it

he didn't even specify, title said "stripped acorn nut"

So if it was the threads of the nut than you should've just pryed up on the valve cover with a screwdriver a little to put pressure on it to come up

I know he didn't specify but I had the same problem before so I kinda knew what he was talking about

OP when you put the new stuff on just remember that those nuts only take 7ft/lbs of torque

I have this same issue and haven't really dealt with it yet. Its good to hear that it's less of a pain in the *** than i had imagined. Mine is stripped in the head and i'm sure i'll have to replace the whole metal sleeve-thingy...

You can thank 99% of the people who over tighten them for that. You wouldn't believe the amount of people who over tighten them to the point of snapping the stud.

^^Thanks for the site...once i dig into this (after finals week) i'll be using this for sure

The nut itself is not the entire problem on my head...i have to remove the piece inside the head which the bolt threads into. Is that a huge ordeal??
