Icon7 Help...no power being transferred to wheels

I’m putting this up for a friend who doesn’t have internet access. It’s a 98 prelude. He took the car out for a spin everything working fine, and out of nowhere the car wont catch the gears. The shifter moves into the positions of gears1-5 like butter….but when given gas, no power is transferred to the wheels in any gear. I’m thinking it might be the shift liking or something around there but that just my theory. All advice and help is appreciated

When you say "out of nowhere" do you mean it he hopped in the car one day to drive and it didnt go anywhere? or while he was driving? Sounds like clutch to me as well. But normally can tell when those break...

Did it make any sort of chatter or clunking when it whent? Normally you can tell, let alone feel when clutch, flywheel, or tranny goes. Not likely it is the trans if it wont go into any gear. Pull apart the the console and examine the shifter, make sure all cables are connected properly. Hah i had something similar happen to me when i had a short shifter on my accord... i just fell off the shifter..

you could break an axle without even knowing it happend it happend to me at the track but i didnt know it was the axle till the next day the part that broke was at the spline inside the trany i had to remove both axles and with a long screw driver and hammer removed the broken piece inside the tranny

i would first take a look at the slave cylinder/clutch master cylinder and the fluid level. Does the same thing happen to it everytime its driven, drive a few blocks and then no power ?

If it was the slave or master cylinder it wouldn't go into gear at all.
