Default CRX rusty quarters?

So i just bought my first CRX.

Its a good start for a project but the rear quarters have a little rust on them.

Should i get patch panels welded in and painted?

Or use fender flares?

im worried because the fender well area on some cars is structural, and i dont want to just cut it out and throw some flares over it if it is.

I would simply sand the rust off, cover the area with anti-rust stuff that can come in a can or paint can, then bondo the area, then paint it all back up!

If you want to get rid of the rust patch pannels is the correct way. You cannot sand out the rust, because any small amount left behind will allow the rust to come back. Get to patching! haha

they sell on ebay quarters for the crx and they are cheap about 86.50 shipped for both sides... Its not the WHOLE quarter panel but its the panels where rust usually occurs.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/88-89...Q5fAccessories

Look there... buy em and have the body shop near you do the job... you should be set...

best way to remove rust is....CUT IT OUT then put in new metal. if its slight rust on the surface you can sand that dwn and use a epoxy primer on it to seal it up

Im still wondering if the wheel arch area on the crx is key to structural integrity. If not ill go with some fender flares if i can find some.

I used fiberglass

First cut it out.

I molded by back bumper in at this step, but you don't have to.

Primed and filled

6 years later, no cracks.

If you do it right, and brace it up, fiberglass can work.

wow that looks great. I think Im going to do the patch panel though. Im just worried about the torsional stiffness of the chassis. Im going to use teh car to auto cross and road race.

How often do you need your rear bumper off? lol

if needed it could be off and I could go back with a non molded look easy.
