Tech: Input on brake combo please....
hey what's up everyone? i'm currently using GSR front brake setup on my EG with AEM rotors and EBC Green pads, stock brake booster etc. and stock brake lines. stock drums in the rear for now.
i'd like to run a smaller, lighter wheel (currently using 16x7 to fit over the AEM rotor) such as a 15x7. but i would need to get rid of the AEM rotors, which is fine with me cause they are pretty heavy along with the 16x7 wheels.
i've seen some different setups for 15" wheels but would like some input on experiences.
i want to go with a stock sized GSR rotor that will give me excellent braking on the street when driven normally but also at the strip, coupled with the correct pads, SS lines and caliber. i'm not too concerned about dust or even noise too much, just performance.
i've looked at the Wilwood sets and they don't look bad but i haven't used them.
any info on this will be appreciated!
thanks

I guess I am not clear on what demands are being placed on the brake system that can't be met by the stock parts... Particularly if you are drag racing, it would seem like the minimum required would be the best option.

Seriously... sell the AEM "kit" and the crap EBC pads and use that money to buy a set of stock GSR rotors and a decent set of pads. What you're using them for will determine what you should buy. Sounds like it's a street car, since the "strip" doesn't require much braking... maybe some Axis Ultimates?
Unless you have money to burn, or just care about the looks (seems highly likely), then dropping the money on a wilwood/fastbrakes/whatever setup sounds like overkill.

i got the AEM rotor kit new for less than half the original cost so i used them for the summer instead of selling them right away.i've had the stock GSR rotors and they've warped twice with different pads so i wanted a rotor a bit more durable. i've also tried the cheap stuff like Powerstop and Powerslot which weren't much better.
i'm most likely gonna give the rims to my GF and sell the AEM rotors cheap. then put my GSR wheels back on with stock sized rotors. i'd reintstall the stock ones but i'm not satisfied with the performance of them so that is why i'm thinking of Wilwood blank rotors with new pads and possibly SS lines.
i haven't tried that many brake setups, that's why i asked for info about others setups.
thanks for the input.

Probably not what you are looking for (price wise), but I will have the Cobalt Racing Brakes 4-piston Big Brake Upgrade Kit in another 2 months or so. They feature 4-piston differentially bored calipers, 2-piece directionally vented, full-floating rotors, caliper brackets, (properly manufactured) s/s brake lines, axxis ultimate brake pads, two liters of ate superblue, and a gift certificate for 15% off one set of Cobalt Racing Brake GT-R.spec compound (when released). $1775 takes the cake.
For what you're looking for (as I read it...), a set of Axxis Ultimate brake pads on OE rotors will do you much better than what you have right now...and won't break the bank either. what # can i reach you at?

Warping rotors can be caused by incorrect torquing of the wheels. Make sure you are torquing correctly and at the Honda spec. Also make sure the calipers can slide easily on the pins and that the piston is not frozen.
For street or parking lot Autocross use, stock rotors and calipers with decent pads will be all you need. Check out the recent article in Car and Driver on their brake tests...
I have recently had a similar problem and have warped rotors 4 times (carquest rotors, carquest turned rotors, brembo blanks, brembos turned) until I determined that my calipers were frozen up.
Good luck

i haven't warped the AEM rotors. only the stock GSR and other cross-drilled, stock sized rotors that i've used in the past.
thanks
