I just bought a 99 crv w/ bad head. I pulled it yesterday and found out it has a bad valve. My question is...
Is it worth replacing just the one valve? being that the motor has over 200k.
also, Is the 94 and up ls head really the same?
can i use that head w/ the crv intake manifold?
and if i use that head what head gasket do i need to use?
Also if i were to use a 99-00 b16 head w/ the goldeneagle ls/vtec kit, what ecu and harness am i going to need?
I believe that the kit brings everything including the head gasket but not sure. So I'm assuming that if needed the head gasket will have to be purchased for the head and not the block. right?
thank you for all your help... I appreciate it!

damn 33 views and not one single reply... If you have the answer to any of my questions please reply. Thanks!
Ill give you something. I also have a 99 CR-V and I have worked on a lot of them. On your original head, if you are planning on reuseing it take it to a machine shop and have it checked. I say this cause older cr-v had a problem where the valve seat will sink into the head and make the head completely unuseable.
you should consider replacing the engine with a low mileage jdm, cause the cost of overhauling your bad head or doing a head swap from another B series will probably cost more if not the same but you'll get a lower mileage bottom end.
Finally the CR-Vtec would be sweet but expensive and again do you want to spend all the cash to put a vtec head on your 200k bottom end. Cause you know after you put that head on and have everything hooked up and tuned your going to rev it to 7000+ rpm, I mean who could you resist.
Is you cr-v a manual trans?
Good luck, I hope this helps.

I have a 5spd crv. The tranny shifts great.
what your saying about the bottom end having high miles iss true but I'm not looking to build a motor or gain real power.
I just want to make it run to drive it around and haul stuff in it.
Two of my friends have some ls heads laying around that I could get for about $50 plus the head gasket($63). And the b16 head I could get for $200 bucks plus the gasket. Ideally buying a low miles b20 is the best way to go about it, but my buddy drove around in it for over 300miles w/ the bad head. So I'm just trying to get it fixed w/o spending too much cash.
thanks for the reply I appreciate it. Any other info will be great.

If your low on cash just swap the head with a ls one. Use the crv manifold and you will be fine. You want to use a b20 gasket If you can afford it a jdm swap would help out you can get s good low milage b20 for $500. If it does have 200k you are still looking at doing the new timing belt, waterpump, and tensioner. If it was me I would swap the whole motor. It probably needs a new clutch anyway.
ibought my 3rd V w/ this issue.... i weighed all options and decided to do the vtec
conversion since its a 5spd too...but if your low on cash use the LS and switch the
IM and cams....then as ussual the maintenance things.. tbelt-water pump-gaskets-etc.!
since your opening the engine might as well do everything in one shot.. itll save you
time and money...

I bought my V with 181K and a burnt valve. I just lapped in one valve. It runs great and now has 240k. I know it's not the right way to do the fix, and I'll probably get slammed for posting, but it worked.
i noticed significant gain when i used the b20z cams!
The bare B20 cylinder head & 96 and up LS cylinder head have the exact same part number 12100-P75-020. The difference lies in the camshafts and the intake valve springs. Since you have to take the camshafts out in order to remove/install the cylinder head you should reuse your B20 cams (if they aren't scored), and if you have the means, change the intake valve springs as well. Then you will have a factory B20 again and not a lesser version.
