New Prelude Owner (Minor inside)
Hey Honda-tech, finally own my own Honda Prelude. Names Cody and i am 16.
Its a BB1 93 prelude "VTEC" with teh sauce. The car is a project. It has a little over 200,000 miles on the H22, and is running a little poopy. The previous owner had troubles getting it to run right, which is why he sold to me for $525 dollars!
Both rear quarters are rusted all the way through, with some rust on the passenger rocker. Previous owner installed a short ram intake, dc header, a ricy as **** 3in exhaust, 8lb fidanza flywheel, and numerous other little things like brand new stock parts.
Interior is awesome! No rips really. The car sat for a year, and we had to break the calipers free. lol
The problem with the car right now is kind of weird. The car starts like a champ and everything. And idles at first like a champ. But once it warms up its trouble. You could be driving the car and driving it fine, but if you stop for anything it will stall out...?? Not sure why. When we tow it home we are going to see if it throws any codes. And we will go from there.
BTW will take pics when I get it home! Thanks for all your help ahead of time guys!

Person before just changed plugs and wires. But I dont see a reason why I shouldnt make sure they were done right (not sure how you can **** it up).
ANd we plan on doing a compression test when we get the mice out of the car. Last thing we need is mice brreding in our garage. So we will let the car sit for a few days. And let the mice come out of hiding. Traps everywhere.
Also while driving the car home. It over heated. And it was obvious the coolant was not circulating throought the engine. Because the top hose coming from the radiator where the fluid travels to the engine was hot as ****. And the hose leaving the engine wasnt hot at all. Was just barely warm. I was able to hold on to the hose and squeeze it right after the motor was turned off. Also the over heating light didnt come on in the car. As well as the fans, they did not kick on either. So I already went and bought a switch so I can turn it on manually. Pops will help me wire that in. But Im sure the thermostat or what not could be clogged or something, not allowing the coolant to flow freely into the engine.
But after we got it home, we took it to the car wash and cleaned the engine very very good. At first i thought i had a phony honda motor, couldnt see motor stamp. But after degreaser and the power washer it appeared.

Cooling fan fuse is fine. Not sure why it didnt kick on when car began to overheat. And teh radiator and thermostat are on the list. And the person before didnt take care of it.
But we will. Once I get some money together i plan on making a "re-build" Thread.

With the patched rad, not circulating coolant, fans not working, and the car running like crap once it warmed up, I would be thinking blown head gasket.
But do yourself a favor, and fix the stuff right, get the fans working on the stock system, not some mickey mouse switch crap. Then you are just creating more problems, or hiding them, not fixing them.

Oh haha i didnt do the radiator stuff... And we are doing the stuff the right way. Buying it all brand new from honda. Besides teh Radiator, $400 **** that!
hi... let me see if i can explain it good enough lol... if its still having problem of course... My 92 honda prelude si 4WS had a problem like that i believe.. the guy who owned it prior to me fixed it for me along with my dad (it was a graduation present) and there is a sensor behind the dash that idk how to explain it but it helps keep it from over heating... like when i go to turn my car over i have to pause for a second and wait for a click to go off before turning it over so it doesn't overheat or anything.... i can crank it without but it might over heat so maybe same thing? idk lots of reasons for it
The stalling out I think may be due to a faulty master or slave cylinder. Mine had the same problem and I replaced both to make sure I corrected the problem.
Lol i figured out the overheating problem. The owner prior to me hit something, and bent the core support back, broke a hole in the radiator, and the radiator fan is hitting the front mount.
BTW just letting you all know, I did a compression test on the motor, wet and dry, and the compression test came back positive! lol
The motors compression is fine. So thats good.

I dunno, with the amount of body rust on that car it might be more trouble than it's worth unless you can fix it yourself because paying someone to do it is gonna cost some $$$.
check for vacuum leaks clean your iacv, clean your throttle body and adjust your idle. Because the car looked like it wasn't taking car of you should give the motor a good cleanin and tune up. but play with with your idle that might do sometin for your stalling problem.
Not trying to be rude, but people telling me about my rust problem, well, I know I have a problem! hahah
I realized how bad it was when I bought the car for $500 bucks. And I have hookups when it comes to body work! -.-
lol... But anyways right now Im trying to buy some 96 spec itr wheels..
