Icon6 Brake pedal goes to floor

Hello everyone!.

My name is Aaron. I have a 1989 Rex with a LS motor swap. last night i took it out for a spin and stared to smell burning. come to find out the bolt that hits the brake light connector was jammed so i was riding my brakes for along time. but when i went to drive home later, the brake pedal goes right to the floor. But if i keep pumping it, it will get stiff again. But loses pressure again. brake fluid is not low or anything. no leak in the vacuum lines, could out of nowhere i would have to bleed the brakes ?? Im trying to bleed the air out tomorrow. Any other ideas?

bleeding the brakes should do it.

I'm having pedal problems now and figured out what the problem is after being told relentlessly to bleed the braking system. I bled the brakes and that really does solve many problems. However, perhaps you could be a little more specific on how the pedal sinks to the floor?

If you press on the pedal and it slowly sinks to the floor and you are not loosing fluid, then consider that it could be an internal seal failure on the MC (this is what happened to me).

If I let off on the brake pedal, pressure comes back, but then once I hold it, the pedal sinks to the floor but I am not losing fluid and am certain there's no air in the lines. I bought a new MC and that should fix the problem...you might want to look into it if your pedal pressure sinks slowly to the floor but you are absolutely certain you are not loosing fluid and you've done a good job bleeding the system.

No air should have got in the lines just because you rode the brakes for along time. Because you loose pressure after building it up by pumping I do believe there is something wrong with your brake booster. The master cylinder should be fine. Just hope it isn't, because those are a huge pain to replace. I had a 91 rex back in the day and a similar issue. Replacing that part solved it for me. Hit up your local salvage yard, they should be able to help you get the part and they're fairly cheap.

I had time to take a look at it. I did bleed the brakes and my pressure is pretty good now. The crazy thing is, When i bled the brake, the front driver side shot red dust out of it.... I guess its from never bleeding them before. The thing with my crx is when you hit the brakes. The little switch that turns the brake lights on broke. i had to put a bolt up there to keep them from staying on. well time to time that bolt comes loose and makes the brakes jam up and don't realize it untill you hit the brakes again. but its all better now. thank you again for the input from you all

check your brake lines for leaks.is your fluid getting lower?

You should only put the Teg MC and booster if you upgraded to the Teg 10.3 brake kit! AS for the sinking, did you properly refilled the MC with fluid. You can't just installe the MC dry. It needs to be "purged". There's a whole "special"procedure... You may have lots of air in the MC.

This is correct. You must bench bleed any master cylinder before installing it.
If you don't, you have some trapped air in the master cylinder and no amount of regular bleeding will remove it.

well at 1st it was going low because i had a leak on my mc so i put a new one in and also a new booster...
its not leaking brakes anymore..but...till now,
whenever i press the brake pedal little bit faster, the pressure is there but slowly loosing it...and when i just step on the brake lightly and slowly, it slowly goes to the floor...what do you think i should do?

yeah i used the integra MC and booster...hmmm well before i put the mc on, i bench bleed it but when i was putting it on i had problem putting one of the brake line screw..and i lost all the fluid inside the mc so i refill it again...i think it happens twice...so do think that air came inside the mc again? if so, do i need to bench bleed it again???

thanks for the help guys!

You can install the master cylinder to the booster and just leave the factory lines off. Then attach the "bench bleeding" lines that redirect the brake fluid back to the reservoir. Bleed the master cylinder by pressing the brake pedal several times. Essentially bench bleeding the master while its actually mounted on the car already. This will minimize the fluid loss when trying to install the master after having already bled it. Then just take off the bench bleeding lines, reattach the factory brake lines and proceed to bleed at each individual caliper. This will eliminate any possibliy of air in the lines.
